Young Person's Practitioner

Overview

The Forward Trust have been awarded a grant for 12 months for a small young person’s engagement project at HMP Elmley and HMP Rochester.  The project will deliver a Connection and Engagement service for 18 – 27 year olds who are due to leave a secure setting and require support with emotional and mental health issues and will be returning to the Swale or Medway area.

What you will be doing?

The post holder will deliver a range of supportive and motivational interventions both prior to release and in the community to support sustained engagement. Engagement apprentices will be developed to work alongside the project. These will have lived experience of statutory service support and have an understanding of challenges around mental health. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Youth Justice apprentices currently employed by KCC and Kent & Medway Violence Reduction Unit who are working on community engagement, as well as other existing networks of service users.

What we are looking for?

  • Someone with understanding of issues associated with young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing within a prison setting and in the community
  • Experience of carrying out assessments and formulating care plans and risk management plans or willingness to learn
  • A proactive, resilient and adaptable person who can use initiative, learn from mistakes and can adapt easily to change
  • Someone with a good understanding of the Criminal Justice System would be preferable, but not essential
  • Whilst this role is short-term there is scope for the role to be extended
