DNV’s Renewables Advisory group is seeking a Wind Turbine Inspections Specialist to join our Wind Turbine Technology team, which includes our wind turbine inspections services.
It is preferred that this position be based out of our Zaragoza, Spain office, but other DNV Renewables Advisory markets in Spain will be considered (Madrid, Barcelona).
What You’ll Do
Provide project-related field inspection and support within Renewables Advisory SEMELA with a focus on wind turbine condition, site operations, and project construction phases. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing End of Warranty inspections and testing on condition of wind turbine equipment on-site
- Performing incoming goods inspections at wind project sites
- Performing operational site assessment site visits to inspect equipment and operations and maintenance processes to objectively assess project conditions
- Supporting/Performing construction monitoring site visits
- Supporting root cause failure investigations through inspection and documentation of field conditions as well as follow-up analysis projects (both desk and field inspection work)
- Meet company required documentation and reporting and administrative responsibilities
- Author detailed construction monitoring and operational site visit reports, and write memos, emails, or technical notes to communicate clearly and objectively internally and to clients with accuracy and technical rigor
- Complete company required documentation in a timely manner such as HSE documentation, time sheets, expense reports, inspection check sheets, tracking reports and scheduling controls
- Typically, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday while in the office. Hours are flexible, with starting times between 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 a.m. The working day is typically 8 hours, excluding lunch break. Field work hours can vary depending upon site needs and weather conditions
Position Qualifications
What is Required
- Mechanical or Electrical Technician Certificate, Wind Turbine Technician Certificate or Engineering Technology degree is required
- Minimum three to five years of experience performing wind turbine commissioning, maintenance, inspections, service and/or operations
- Climb up a wind turbine tower ladder while carrying up to 15 kgs of gear, typically 100 m in height
- Experience with some or all the following: visual turbine inspections, internal video probe inspections (borescope) of gearboxes, blade inspections, oil and grease sampling, vibration monitoring systems, and generator testing
- Must have at least working knowledge of wind turbine systems including gearboxes, blades, pitch and yaw systems, generators, towers and foundations, electrical cabling, controllers, and SCADA systems
- Experience in some or all the following: wind turbine commissioning, maintenance, service, operation, quality assurance inspections and assessment
- Knowledgeable in wind turbine project health and safety and environmental practices which includes but is not limited to lock out tag out, working at heights, hazard communication, hazardous waste, confined space, electrical safety and personal protective equipment
- Proficient in MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and able to learn new software
- Proficient in reading and understanding operational procedures and instructions, maintenance and inspection check sheets and health and safety processes
- Sufficient physical fitness to perform multiple 80-125 m turbine climbs per day
- Walk over rough or slippery terrain as experienced on heavy construction sites
- Work in inclement weather conditions
- Sit for extended periods as required for typical office work
- Enter confined or enclosed spaces according to required procedures
- Ability to lift up to 25 kgs
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- High level of integrity, discretion and adheres to company/client non-disclosure agreements
- Takes a customer service approach
- Both a team player, and able to work independently for extended periods
- Ability to think critically about the task at hand and make suggestions for improvement
- Able to work effectively and professionally with diverse people, clients, and co-workers
- Flexible and adaptable, as issues and tasks may change quickly
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record
- Passport or documentation to allow international travel
- Requires the willingness and availability to travel frequently throughout the year for periods of up to three weeks at a time. Estimated travel time expected 60% to 75% of the year
- Excellent written and verbal English-language communication skills, comfortable addressing large groups and managing subcontractors in field
What is Preferred
- Experience with different wind turbine platforms preferred
- One to two years supervision and/or project management experience a plus
- Training: current climbing at heights and climb rescue certificates desired, qualified electrical worker (600V+) a plus
- Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical and civil drawings, and electrical schematics
