VP, Commercial Operations

Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking a VP, Commercial Operations.

Position Overview

As an influential member of the Commercial Leadership Team, will build deep relationships with commercial customers to support demand and deployment of Ambri battery systems. This critical position will hire and lead teams for applications engineering, product installation and commissioning and service. The successful candidate will insist upon service excellence throughout the Commercial organization and excels at developing, supporting and maintaining strong relationships, internal and external, that inspire confidence in Ambri’s offerings. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, will build and lead a Commercial Operations function that ensures Ambri’s customers receive excellent support pre-, during and post purchase. Will oversee and deliver business-critical operational initiatives, process improvements, and cross-functional integrations. The right incumbent thrives on collaboration and comfortably works across the Commercial team to optimize infrastructure, analytics, workflows, resource management, effectiveness, and productivity.

Job Summary:

  • Is the primary commercial and technical resource responsible for actively driving and leading all stages of the customer fulfillment process for the Commercial Team
  • Successfully grow and manage a commercial operations team, establish and maintain positive relationships
  • Partner with Commercial Leadership Team to identify, prioritize, and develop the strategy and associated process initiatives that drive the Commercial Team to achieve identified goals
  • Lead the implementation of the strategy within the Commercial Operations Team with a drive towards consistency in approach and quality deliverables
  • Create an internal infrastructure built for agility, transparency, and evolution; create processes that instill operational and commercial excellence
  • Prepare regular progress and prioritization reports using key customer targeting metrics
  • Resolve commercial and technical issues/negotiations in collaboration with appropriate commercial team members
  • Partner cross functionally and collaboratively with Product Management, Marketing and others to successfully meet market demands and to identify new solutions that drive a strong customer development strategy
  • Continuously analyze market trends and key competitor developments, share this knowledge and translate findings into actionable insights

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • BS Degree in relevant science or engineering; MBA a plus

  • 10+ years' progressive energy storage industry experience working with developers, IPPS and utilities in a sales, business development or similar role

  • Excellent leadership skills with a strong consultative mindset

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, building trusting relationships, internally and externally

  • Intense drive to make an impact

  • Track record of exceptional problem solving and strategic thinking

  • Exceptional communication skills - listening, verbal, interpersonal, negotiation and written; strong presentation skills

  • Hands on experience coaching, mentoring, managing and motivating others

  • U.S. Citizen or approved registered alien

  • Ability to pass drug screening and Federal Government criminal background check

  • Ability to travel, domestically and internationally, which will fluctuate between 25-50%
