Overview of the Position

As part of the Victim/Witness Assistance Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO), the Victim/Witness Assistance position is to provide referrals for services or assistance to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice system within the District of Columbia.  These services include crisis intervention, referrals to social services or ongoing service providers, and assessing victims during frequent meetings involving the Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice system to ensure cooperation with the AUSAs and other USAO staff.
  • Ensure that victims are informed of federal Crime Victim’s Rights as well as DC Crime Victim’s Rights.
  • Assess for safety concerns, security concerns, and mental health concerns of victims and witnesses and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Coordinate services on behalf of victims and witnesses as needed throughout criminal justice cases.
  • Provide crisis intervention with victims and/or witnesses within the office and at DC Superior Court as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field and 4+ years’ relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
