Vice President of Operations
Position Summary:

Introduction:
The mission of American Bird Conservancy (ABC) is to conserve birds and their habitats – the places birds need to thrive – across the Americas. We are a growing group of 125+ dedicated staff, located across the United States and with a network of partners from Canada to Chile. For nearly 30 years, we have collaboratively delivered an expanding array of results aimed at preventing bird species extinctions, addressing threats to birds, and reversing declines that are reducing populations of nearly all bird groups. The VP of Operations will lead efforts to update and streamline systems and processes supporting our staff across multiple locations. This position requires a broad knowledge of ABC programs and structure, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with staff members, Board members, and consultants. Work requires initiative, flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail. The VP of Operations will serve as an integral member of the senior management team, reporting to the President. This is a full-time, remote position that will require travel.
Primary Duties:
Personnel
Supervise, coordinate, and monitor all personnel-oriented tasks including job descriptions and postings, recruitment, interviews, complaints, onboarding and offboarding, and employee record
Support the head of Human Resources (HR) with all staff payroll activities. Along with HR, investigate and implement cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits for the organization to offer employees and potential
Oversee a salary equity study, and collaboratively work with HR staff to develop a compensation strategy.
Work with Finance to plan and implement changes to payroll and timesheet systems.
Collaborate with ABC staff to identify, develop, and implement training to support day-to-day functions. Work with staff to identify and procure appropriate training, coaching, and other forms of professional
Work with supervisors to create, implement and complete annual individual workplans, performance goals, and reviews.
Conduct annual performance reviews, support individual workplan development, and recommend salary adjustments for the Operations team.
Work with the President and HR on staff succession and growth
Oversee and collaborate with Information Technology (IT) staff to ensure appropriate cyber security is in place and updated regularly to comply with industry standards.
Work with IT staff and to identify, implement, and support software and technologies needed for day-to-day work at ABC, including an HRIS migration from Bamboo to Paylocity.
Oversees the development of content for and implementation of the bi-annual staff retreat. Engage staff in the planning of the retreat through committee work.
Update, create, and implement policies and procedures through collaboration across regions and divisions. Alongside the HR Lead, update and maintain the Employee Handbook.
Supervise Operations staff (~6 staff members).
General Administrative**:**
Serve as Secretary and liaison to the Board of
Organize and coordinate Board of Directors meetings, including developing content alongside ABC’s senior leadership team. Work with President and General Counsel to maintain all BOD records.
Responsible for the preparation and management of the general Operations yearly
Work with the President and HR on various analyses needed for management such as staff skills and duty redundancy, staff satisfaction surveys, and salary equity
Oversee office management including coordinating all matters related to office space. Serve as principal liaison with landlord and

Position Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in business, administration, or a related field and at least ten years of professional experience in office administration, project management, and related work.
At least five years of experience with staff supervision.
Proficiency and comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office suite, Egnyte, Slack, and Zoom.
Ability to work independently, efficiently, accurately, and empathetically under

Excellent organizational and administrative skills with great attention to detail.
