About Resource Development

Accion’s Resource Development department has a solid track record of creative partnerships, strategic fundraising, and proven results. We work across a broad base of corporate and private foundation partners including Mastercard, Credit Suisse, FMO, Bill and Melinda Gates, MetLife, and Citi Foundations. In addition, we work with individual impact investors, philanthropic donors, and the public sector to carry out our important and increasingly urgent mission. Building on the existing strong base of supporters and partners, we aim to further expand the team and amplify our strategic partnership priorities.

Position Summary

The Vice President, Institutional Partnerships will oversee fundraising from both the private and public sectors, while ensuring a close collaboration with the global programs and communications team. This role reports to the Chief Development and Partnerships Officer (CDPO). This person will be responsible for strategic and long-term partnership development and fundraising outcomes across the department with specific focus on institutional partnerships and support the CDPO to leverage global awareness of and interest in Accion programs and thought leadership. The VP will lead high visibility and high potential partnerships with current and prospective funders as well as manage a team of fundraisers. S/He will work closely with the CDPO to develop long term fundraising and partnership planning to maximize revenue generation and optimal positioning of Accion’s work.

Location: Washington, D.C. strongly preferred.

Position Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Working closely with the CDPO, lead the partnerships team, set fundraising objectives and goals, and develop plans to position our work and impact to funders.
  • Guiding a team of 5, ensures revenue generation and builds successful partnerships that yield quality results.
  • Drive our outreach and engagement strategies for the private and public sectors in alignment with Accion’s programmatic and thought leadership priorities.
  • Lead, manage, and support new business development and growth of existing accounts.

Pipeline Development

  • Oversee pipeline management and ensure that the team is moving prospects forward towards funding.
  • Engage program staff and senior management in efforts to understand Accion’s funding priorities.

Leadership

  • Working with the broader team, contribute to direction and strategic growth of the department, sharing programmatic information and positioning to help the full team identify new revenue generating opportunities.
  • Ensure Accion fundraising efforts follow current trends of financial inclusion with key stakeholders and identify creative ways to develop opportunities for engagement outside of financial inclusion sector.
  • Foster collaboration and build consensus across programs, communications, executive office, and resource development around developing key relationships to maximize fundraising and visibility opportunities
  • Represent Resource Development department in management team meetings, and work with the CDPO and team leadership to ensure overall team success.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years progressive relevant experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams.
  • Proven ability to lead teams by example, developing and coaching staff to bring out the best in each member.
  • Proven track record of fundraising success and revenue growth in development sector
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and communicate clearly to other departments and levels of the organization regarding Resource Development objectives, complex projects and departmental strategies.
  • Ability to work under pressure with grace, humility and humor.
  • Knowledge of the financial inclusion landscape and funding trends is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM preferred.
