What to expect
Ease of use is an imperative, and as a UX designer, you'll ensure that the user experience for individuals is as efficient and satisfying as possible. You'll be involved in the design of digital products and services for specific target groups and end users and will need to understand stakeholder motivations as well as members of the public.
You'll work collaboratively with other members of the digital team in an agile (scrum) environment including members of the wider business to ensure that products and services meet client needs.
We offer you training time on the job, and you'll need to be willing to learn how to use specialist software and keep your knowledge and skills up to date in this fast paced role. You’ll appreciate that it's vital to keep an eye on emerging trends so that you're always one step ahead in terms of design practice and the user's experience.
You'll collaborate with other designers, developers and testers, working as a team to complete a project. You may have to travel to meet clients and international travel may be required occasionally.
About you
You'll have a portfolio of digital design work to showcase including sketches, wireframes, user journeys, use cases and prototypes. Your experience enables you to thrive in a creative and pressured environment. With web design and HTML coding experience combined with usability testing of websites, you’ll be adept at formulating user journeys that support non-technical users to navigate data and information and achieve their intended goals.
As a UX designer, you’ll have broad experience across different sectors including private companies, and public bodies ideally with an environmental and sustainability focus. These can range from large multinational companies to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working for a range of clients on different projects.
You'll preferably be degree level educated, with a keen interest in web and software applications design. Degree subjects that include design, computing, apps development or digital media and technology options are particularly useful but not essential. However, if you're self-taught and competent in HTML and the software used in UX work, we will welcome your application.
Key responsibilities
As a UX designer, you'll handle the full spectrum of users' impressions and interactions for a range of different clients and solutions. You’ll create engaging, visually appealing and easy to navigate user journeys for our environmental sector client web solutions, and work on government websites and secure web portals aimed at providing information and advice to the public and stakeholders respectively.
