About the Opportunity

As a result of our continuing growth and pipeline of exciting new projects, Ethos Urban is seeking a permanent full-time Economist based in our Melbourne office to join our Economics team.

This role is at the Urbanist level and is ideally suited to a recent graduate or an emerging professional of up to 2+ years’ experience seeking to establish a career in land use and property economics. The role is within a dynamic and well-respected national team of over 15 Economists.

As an Economist you will work on varied projects with a range of talented urban professionals – continuing to learn and share your insights for the best client outcomes. The role will suit a self-starter, lateral thinker, and someone with a passion for solving problems, particularly as it relates to our cities and regions.

About the Team

Ethos Urban’s economics team is a leading consultancy in the economic analysis of “people, places and spaces”.

Our practical approach to urban and regional economic analysis is focused on providing private and public sector clients with robust advice that informs decision-making. We work with developers, investors, policy makers, businesses, peak bodies, Government departments and agencies, and many other entities seeking advice on how economics applies to their real-world issues.

This includes a wide variety of assignments, from detailed land use analysis through to advice on the economic impact of major infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for someone with an understanding of economics and a passion for high-quality research. The successful candidate will:

• Work side-by-side with economists, town planners, urban designers, social planners, and community & stakeholder engagement professionals.
• Have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of complex urban projects located in Victoria and nationally – from conceptualisation through to approval and delivery.
• Work with and learn from some of the best economic and urban professionals in Australia.
• Enjoy working with a wide variety of clients including major landowners, state and local government authorities and agencies, and corporate developers.
• Participate and develop skills in all aspects of economic consultancy including proposal writing, research & analysis, preparation of advice and client liaison.

**Our Ideal Candidate

**Our ideal candidate is an individual who is passionate about research and its practical application to real-world economic issues. The role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

The role suits recent graduates through to those in the early stages of their career who have a passion for how economics relates to the built environment and communities they serve. Our ideal candidate will be driven, pro-active and results orientated with the ability to work collaboratively to achieve the best results for our clients.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:

• Hold a tertiary qualification in Economics or related degree/ discipline (essential).
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High level of verbal and written communication.
• Good report writing skills.
• Good planning and organising skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience in, or willing to learn Geographic Information System (GIS) programs and data visualisation techniques.
• Be adaptable & flexible in working across the organisation in various roles and responsibilities.
• Able to build rapport with clients and other project team members easily.
• Able to work co-operatively and flexibly with other team members.
• Strive for excellence.
• Preferred:  Driver's license.
