Background

CLEAR Global is seeking a volunteer intern to develop learning and engagement materials for TWB Voice, our platform dedicated to ethical voice data collection with speakers of marginalized and under-resourced languages.

The platform addresses the critical shortage of speech data for languages often excluded from mainstream language technology development. Building capacity and clearly communicating the ethical use of data to our diverse community is vital to the success of this initiative.

  1. Coordinate the development of a self-paced course on voice data collection for the TWB Learning Center.
  2. Develop community-facing instructional videos and demos explaining tasks, voice data, and voice technology.
  3. Create "off-the-shelf" training packages for internal use in online webinars and in-person community contribution events.

The role

We are seeking a motivated intern to lead a critical effort in communicating the purpose and process of ethical voice data collection to our global community.

This role involves designing, developing, and coordinating various learning resources to empower linguistic communities to contribute to technology development on the TWB Voice platform. The intern will draw on best practices to develop effective online training based on CLEAR Global's training framework.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Help integrate instructional videos into the consent workflows to inform users about how their data will be stored, used, and protected.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and project teams to gather input and validate the content for accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
  • Develop additional supporting learning materials, such as handouts and guides.

These roles and responsibilities are approximate and may change over time.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university degree program (a degree in learning management, translation, communication, or a related field is preferred).
  • Previous experience in data collection initiatives (internships and volunteering are considered valid experience) is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online course platforms.
  • Ability to create short, high-quality instructional videos or demos (e.g., screen recordings, short animated explainers).
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, etc.) and similar collaborative tools.
  • Experience working with non-profit or humanitarian organizations.
