Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Watertown, MA office is looking for a Transportation Engineer/Planner to join our Transportation Planning and Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a dynamic team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including real estate municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands and aviation. Our team uses its skills and experience to improve our communities with a sustainable, context-driven and integrated project delivery approach. Our clients include municipalities, MassDOT and other state agencies, and private partners who support the development of the places we live, work, recreate and learn.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to develop mobility solutions for all users
  • Conduct multi-modal transportation analyses
  • Conduct safety research and assessments
  • Perform field observations and site visits
  • Prepare transportation impact, corridor and intersection improvement studies
  • Planning/conceptual design of transportation engineering and planning projects
  • Conduct research and preparation of reports, and presenting findings and results to clients

Skills and Attributes

  • Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in transportation engineering & planning
  • Team oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and mentor junior staff
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and strategically in solving problems and devising approaches
  • Experience using industry-standard software design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, traffic simulation) required

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil/Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning or related field
  • 3-5 years of professional transportation engineering and/or planning experience
  • Candidates with EIT/PE, PTOE and/or AICP certifications are preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Synchro, ArcGIS and/or HCS preferred
  • Experience with PTV VISSIM and/or Adobe Creative Suites products a plus
