ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Transportation practice is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation team in Orlando, Florida.

The selected candidate will work with a dynamic team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within a broad cross-section of markets, including real estate municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation. Our team uses its skills and experience to improve our communities with a sustainable, context-driven, and integrated project delivery approach. Our clients include FDOT, local governments, and private development who support the development of the places we live, work, recreate, and learn.

Responsibilities

  • Production and delivery of transportation projects from study through the construction administration phase
  • Pre-design project planning and financial management of assigned projects
  • Design of highways and roads including the development of geometric layout, grading, and drainage, pavement design, working with utilities, and environmental permitting
  • Prepare roadway design plans per FDOT FDM design guidelines and helps assemble project deliverables per FDOT CADD Handbook
  • Coordinates with other VHB disciplines, clients, and vendors to develop multi-disciplined design and plans
  • Quality Control on all project documents
  • Managing the development of technical design and specification documents
  • Prepare Engineering cost estimates and quantity calculations. Experience with quantity manager and development of Estimated quantities reports is a plus
  • Working with project engineers to develop 3D models using Open Roads Designer

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering (a master’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • 3-5 years of engineering experience in roadway design
  • Engineer-in-Training certification preferred
  • Experience working in Open Roads Designer
  • Must have experience working with state and local government Transportation infrastructure projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional transportation engineering experience focusing on roadway design
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of FDOT design standards, project scheduling, plans development, and project delivery
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling principles, template design, and 3D Deliverables
  • Drainage design experience
