Institute for War & Peace Reporting is hiring a
IWPR (Institute for War and Peace Reporting) is an independent non-profit organization that works with the media and civil society to bring about positive change in conflict zones, closed societies, and countries in transition processes around the world.
IWPR is looking for professional translators with high level capacity from Spanish to English (native level English writing capacity) to add to our roster.. Work will largely consist of translating journalistic articles from across the Latin America region, requiring a good understanding of local diction and turns of phrase from multiple Spanish-speaking countries, as well as great sensitivity towards journalistic standards. There will also be the need to translate some administrative documents (such as contracts) and project reports, amongst others. In some cases the work with consist of adding subtitles to videos- if the rate differs for this work, please indicate in your application.
Those applicants selected for the roster will receive a contract which will make them eligible for translation work, however they will be contacted on an as-needed basis, and assigned work based on their cost proposition and their specific skills or specialities. Profile:
Main tasks and responsibilities:
1.- Translate with clear and direct language, respecting all facts and using sensitive and inclusive language
2.- Respect the format of the document and make sure that everything continues to work (hyperlinks, etc.)
3.- Where relevant provide explanations of local usage (e.g. dollar amount for local currencies), so that any product is fully understandable by an English-speaking, international audience.
4.- Request information from IWPR and its consultants about any questions in the glossary or use of terms in particular in relation to any technical, local or other language.
4.- Availability to consistently provide quick response and turnaround.
