The ChildFund Sport for Development Team works with sports partners around the globe to ensure that the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in sport is a priority.
The ChildFund Sport for Development Team manages ChildFund Rugby, a work stream that focuses on the delivery of social impact through rugby partnerships.
ChildFund Sport for Development is led by ChildFund Australia, an independent international development organisation that works to reduce poverty for children in developing communities and a member of the ChildFund Alliance - a global network of 12 organisations which assists almost 23 million children and their families in 70 countries.
Work Context
ChildFund Rugby is recruiting consultants who can support a Rugby for Development project in Turkey by providing Turkish - English and English - Turkish interpretation and translation for Coach Training activities and other project events as required from now until 30 December 2023.
This consultancy will support Pass It Back, an innovative Sport for Development program led by ChildFund in partnership with Turkiye Rugby Federation (TRF) which delivers an integrated life skills and rugby curriculum for children and young people as part of earthquake recovery interventions. The program aims to provide children with structured sport and life skills learning opportunities in a safe, inclusive environment, that supports social and emotional learning and allows them to positively contribute to their communities.
Job Purpose and Reporting Structure
The purpose of this Consultancy is to provide interpretation support services to ChildFund from Turkish to English and English to Turkish to ensure that:
- All participants understand concepts delivered during mentoring sessions;
- The participants and trainers are able to effectively and openly communicate together.
The Consultant will report to ChildFund Rugby Regional Partnerships Coordinator and work closely with Turkey Rugby Federation staff and other personnel.
Note: Interpreter will be paid based on actual number of outputs delivered over the contract period.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
- Ability to interpret to a high standard of accuracy, maintain the spirit and context of texts, as well as ensure technical language and nuances of the original version are retained, and use precise, clear and proper terminology;
- Ability to deliver outputs on-time, accurately, and efficiently;
- Ability to ask for clarification or explanation when faced with challenges;
- Ability to receive and use feedback constructively.

All discussions and documents relating to this ToR will be treated as confidential by the parties.
Child Safeguarding
The successful applicant will be required to comply with ChildFund Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and to sign a Code of Conduct. The consultant will also be required to have in place relevant background and/or criminal checks.
Counter-Terrorism
ChildFund Australia acknowledges its obligation under the Australian laws relating to counter-terrorism. In order to meet its obligation, the consultant’s name will be reviewed against Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and National Security Australia lists at the onset of any financial relationship.
