Background

This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience within an international non-profit organization, assisting in terminology processes, especially in maintaining core terminology resources.

CLEAR Global has created and shared a number of open-access, multilingual glossaries to disseminate clear and reliable terminology for country specific or domain specific topics. They are freely available to all people on- and offline. We are looking for volunteer project interns who can support the maintenance and updating of these resources.

Objectives

This initiative is meant to

  1. Support the Terminology Officer and CLEAR Global in developing and maintaining existing glossaries:
    • Priority: CLEAR Global PSEA Glossary (42 languages).
    • TWB Covid-19 Glossary (approx 100 languages).
    • North-East Nigeria Glossary (10 languages).
  2. Develop community capacity and interest in terminology processes and products to generate sustainable resources.

The role

To assist the CLEAR Global Team in coordinating glossary maintenance projects, ensuring that they are completed efficiently and within the expectations of CLEAR Global management and principles of terminology. This may involve collaborating on the platform that is used for terminology validation, coordinating with reviewers and validators in various languages, ensuring engagement, appropriate levels of quality and turnaround.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and engage members of the Terminology Working Group in the maintenance process
  • Manage term validation projects using our online TWB Platform
  • Manage term bases in various languages in the platform, run pre- and post-production checks
  • Track project progress and delivery, keep project trackers up-to-date, and provide regular status updates to terminology officer
  • Maintain an organized project environment across platforms, keeping project records, files and databases updated
  • Assist with building and managing reviewer and subject matter expert teams
  • Maintain effective communication with reviewers and validators throughout the project, ensuring that they have a clear understanding of project expectations and remain engaged throughout the project
  • Handle other related tasks as assigned
  • Act in the best interest of the organization during the project period.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university degree program (a degree in terminology, language, translation, communication, or a related field is preferred).

  • Excellent command of English. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage; reading different scripts (especially Arabic) is an advantage

  • Previous experience in translation and/or terminology (internships and volunteering are considered valid experiences) is desirable;

  • Previous experience working with non-profit organizations is desirable;

  • Strong writing skills in English;

  • Knowledge of CAT tools is a plus.
