Mercy Corps’ GAC-funded programming in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) space includes national action planning processes, including localization at sub-national government level; support to women peacebuilders and human rights defenders; support to women-led organizations working on peacebuilding, GBV prevention and response, and women’s empowerment; the weaponization of social media and its intersection with violence against women and girls; linkages between gender-based violence referral systems and community-based conflict management systems; gender responsive and inclusive interest-based negotiation and mediation processes; support to safe spaces as part of the prevention of the recruitment of young women and men into violent extremist groups or gangs; and support to gender-responsive conflict early warning systems.
The WPS Advisor will provide technical support to Mercy Corps field teams with WPS and programming funded by Global Affairs Canada’s Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOPs) in Haiti and Ethiopia. The support includes network and partnership development, helping to monitor and improve program quality and relevance, staying current on industry innovation and best practices, supporting research and documentation of key program outcomes, delivering training, and disseminating information to internal and external partners. The Advisor will also participate in matrixed teams, share and build the capacity of others, and help integrate their technical areas within the work of others.

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
The Advisor will bring flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm to their work. The Advisor must have a personal and professional commitment to gender equality and inclusion, and to applying an intersectional feminist approach in how they understand and deliver their work. The Advisor must be able to provide technical support in a way that shares power and values the contributions of those with whom they work. The Advisor must prioritize a decolonial approach to working with country teams. The Advisor must be able to prioritize their own self-care and the self-care of others as a key part of their approach. The Advisor must have the perseverance to drive external and internal change related to gender equality and inclusion. The Advisor must have exceptional writing skills and the ability to multi-task, set priorities, pay attention to detail, and work under tight deadlines within complex team environments. The Advisor must take an active role in building and maintaining external and internal relationships, with a focus on collaboration and mutual respect. The Advisor must be willing to not only advise, but to contribute to the development of work products as needed and requested by the teams that they support. All TSU positions require strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, and a level of emotional intelligence proficiency that quickly builds and maintains productive relationships across teams.
The position may be based in any place where Mercy Corps is registered to operate. Travel to field offices may be required. Haiti and parts of Ethiopia where the project is implemented are insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited.
