The Role

Xylem Electronics Centre of Excellence seeks to hire an Electronics Technical Manager.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to the existing Power Electronics Centre of Excellence (PECoE) team and will act as a System Architect to support development of best practice design of electronics and embedded firmware across all Xylem business units. Reporting to Director of Electronics Centre of Excellence, the successful candidate will lead the development of common electronics design architecture to design a range of custom motor drives (variable frequency) to surpass efficiency, usability and reliability requirements for a wide range of water applications.

Xylem Electronics Centre of Excellence has been built on the success of Power Electronics Centre of Excellence to ensure that new designs with electronics and firmware (and not just Power Electronics) follow design processes that (i) minimise the risk of supply chain disruption by choosing components with good future availability and multiple vendors and (ii) minimise the cost and time of future re-design work as components reach end of life, through good architectural choices both in hardware and embedded firmware.

For Power Electronics specifically, the Technical Manager will support Power Electronics team in maintaining and expanding the core hardware platform architecture, the motor control firmware library and the development of motor control algorithms. They will work closely with the internal customers at Xylem’s businesses where power electronics is applicable to complete existing motor drive designs based on the proven architectures, and to extend the platform capabilities to higher powers and the widest range of motor topologies.

The successful candidate would have had extensive hands-on experience in electronics and in product design, ideally, within Power Electronics field, both as designers and as product architects. They will be comfortable liaising with subject matter experts throughout the business and would have demonstrated proven record of working in a dynamic commercial environment where timescales and budgets are critical.

The successful candidate will thrive in environments where uncertainty is common, will be skilled at driving value from business and will be a strong team player as well as mentor to Engineers within the ECoE team. Working alongside the Director of ECoE, Electronics Technical Manager will play a key role in helping to align Electronics designs and Systems thinking between various parts of the organization.
