By combining deep industrial expertise with test capabilities the Technology Centre Groningen (NL) offers research, technology development and qualification, advisory and testing & pilots services to support customers in navigating and accelerating towards decarbonization in a safe, reliable and cost-effective way
The technical consultant Low Carbon Fuels will be part of a team of specialists and consultants focusing on enabling the introduction of new (gaseous) fuels and developing, validating and implementing low-carbon fuels and related technologies. The team has a global reach and delivers a broad suite of fuel transition services that offer novel ways to decarbonize and optimize the fuel value chain from production (e.g. hydrogen, biogas, ammonia, methanol, bio-LNG), transmission and distribution to end-use in industry, transport/mobility and the built environment.
The Groningen (NL) based team is part of a global DNV network of experts on low carbon technology, markets and strategies. As countries in Europe and beyond look to deliver their climate commitments, the demand for our decarbonization services is growing rapidly. The team is looking forward to further strengthening its capabilities and reach with an enthusiastic academic delivering technology-driven and customer-centric value.
Role and Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver technological insights, methods and solutions to customer challenges regarding decarbonizing the fuel value chain and related fuel transition. This will include:
o Techno-economic feasibility studies
o Technology assessment studies
o R&D and experimental work in our Technology Centre
o Simulation and model development
o Reporting and presentations to customers
- Actively support targeted business development efforts through proposal development and fostering positive relationships with existing and new clients
- Strengthen our service offerings portfolio by identifying (future) market demands and initiating and developing new services
- Strengthen our knowledge base on the global positioning of low-carbon fuels: market and development trends, stakeholders involved, (pilot-)projects being set-up, implementation routes being developed
- Work on multiple projects to the satisfaction of the Manager/Project Sponsor (i.e. within the required timeframe, cost and quality standards)
Position Qualifications
Personal characteristics:
- A combination of strong technical background with an affinity for customer interaction and business development;
- Excellent analytical skills – able to analyze and understand complex problems and create logical solutions and ideas using domain knowledge and a range of techniques / theory and software / tools;
- Effective team player, both internally and externally;
- Self-starting in developing, maintaining and applying knowledge about current and future market issues;
- Ability to manage own time and workload effectively and meet objectives;
- Creates trust through reliable delivery and strong and stable relationships with customers;
- Promotes a diverse and inclusive culture, respects and understands cultural diversity and can communicate and connect with people at different levels.
Position Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as chemical engineering, applied physics, mathematics or mechanical engineering;
- Several years of relevant working experience in the energy industry;
- Understanding the broader energy transition challenges on technological, market and policy level;
- Strong domain knowledge in any one or more of the following areas:
o Natural gas and decarbonized fuel value chain (bio- and e-fuels)
o Combustion and fuel quality
o Low-carbon fuels production and processing technology
o Mobility, industry and residential end-use equipment
o GHG emission reduction strategies and monitoring practices
- Enthusiasm for programming and data analyses. The use of Python would be a bonus.
- Fluent English language skills;
- Preferably Dutch language skills.
