Do you want the most meaningful job of your career? UNDO are on a mission to tackle the greatest challenge of our time: climate change. We are a fast-growing for-profit business that is already one of the biggest carbon removal companies in the world. But this is only the start - we have ambitious plans aligned with great funding, excellent people and an inclusive team. You too could make your mark and be part of something huge.
About the role
We are building an agile, fast moving tech team who can collaborate closely with our industry leading operations, science and commercial teams to deliver the tech infrastructure needed to support this journey.
We’re looking to recruit a versatile tech lead to be the first full time member of that team reporting into the Director of Technology.
What will you do
- You will play a key role in architecting, designing, building and maintaining the tech solutions needed across the business -- whether that’s our internal platform for operations management, running scientific models, integrating data from field sensors, building out and maintaining our external website and e-commerce offerings, or whatever tomorrow’s top priority might be.
- You will have the opportunity to have substantial influence over the choices of technology and tooling used and to identify the right technical approach to address each aspect of the business’ needs.
- You will report into the Director of Technology and will have the opportunity to actively contribute to defining the business’s tech strategy and roadmap.
- You will collaborate closely with other teams across the breadth of the company. This is a great opportunity for agile practise as it’s best: working directly with your end users to deliver rapid solutions that have immediate business impact.
- Over time you will have the opportunity to be involved in building, growing, and (if you want to) managing the in-house tech team, but as the first full time member of that team you will also be someone with fast hands who is happy to get stuck in to building and delivering MVP.
About you
Are you a senior engineer or tech lead with experience of a range of technologies and a growth mindset? If you have a rounded set of skills and a desire to learn and pick up new technologies then we would love to hear from you.
Essential:
- You are a senior or lead engineer with experience in a range of programming languages and development frameworks.
- You have experience in developing, delivering and operating solutions in one or more of the major public clouds.
- You embrace the latest technology and show strong judgement in selecting the right tool for the job. You are able to ramp up quickly in whatever technology is required to solve the problem at hand.
- We have already decided that we be basing the core internal solution around Microsoft’s Power Platform. You don't need to be a Power Platform expert (although that's great if you are!) but you recognise and embrace the value that utilising low-code solutions like this can offer in terms of maximizing development velocity, whilst having the coding skills necessary to supplement these where required.
- You enjoy delivering resilient, production quality applications, and have experience in trading off factors such as delivery speed, resiliency, robustness and security.
- You enjoy working closely with stakeholders across the business and relish the challenge of working in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment where the needs of your consumers are constantly evolving and where your ability to keep up delivers significant and immediate value to those around you
- You are excited about our objectives and goals as a company and by the opportunity to get involved at an early stage where you can have a major influence on the technology we are building and a major impact on our success.
Desirable
- The ability to lead agile tech teams, setting technical direction and taking ownership for the quality of the team’s work, but also mentoring, coaching and developing the less experienced team members.
- Experience developing and maintaining external facing websites and e-commerce solutions.
- Experience with CI/CD and tooling such as Jenkins / GitHub / ADO deployment pipelines.
- Experience designing relational databases.
- Personnel management and a desire to manage the engineering team at UNDO as it grows.
- Agile project management and a range of agile development methodologies.
