Position Overview
The Island School seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, and creative person to lead a summer camp for its young learners age 3-10. Ideal candidates will be studying education, child development, or another closely related field. The lead camp counselor will spend their time exploring the Island School campus with young children while engaging students in experiential activities, games, sports, arts and lessons. This individual should have a love of children, enjoy being outdoors and in the water and understand the core values and ideals of an Island School education. This is an 8-week paid summer position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Plan, document, and implement engaging curriculum and programming for young
learners (ages 3-10)
● Collaborate with colleagues across the Island School community
● Oversee the safety and well-being of campers and staff
● Maintain proactive and respectful communication with parents and families
● Serve as a role model for young children
● Maintain a clean and organized physical space
Required Skills
● Responsible, reliable role model
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with families
● Willingness to work outdoors
● Desire to be active and have fun
● Commitment to sustainability
● 21+ years old
● Clear background check
Preferred Skills
● First Aid and CPR certification
● Swimming instruction experience and/or lifeguard certification
Program Dates
Summer camp programming will run June 19 through August 11, 2023.
