DNV’s Civil Engineering team continues to grow rapidly, and we are looking for you. Our team is comprised of highly skilled civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers, consulting to the world’s largest stakeholders for solar, wind, and battery storage energy projects and we need your help. We are seeking a structural engineer who is ready to grow and develop while supporting our US and Canadian team. The Structural Engineer - Solar in this position will be exposed to the broadest cross-section of solar and storage projects of any renewables company in the world supporting a wide breath of civil engineering projects by providing civil, owners and independent engineering consulting services for the renewable industry.

What You'll do
- Review of design drawings, calculations, and site specific studies for photovoltaic (PV) solar array foundations, fixed-tilt and tracking PV structures to support project financing of utility scale and distributed generation PV projects.
- Cross organizational collaboration to achieve project deliverable completion set within a customer’s specified timeline and scope.
- Evaluation of innovative and novel design concepts for PV solar structural support systems.
- Independent evaluation and root cause analyses of PV racking structural failures.
- Aerodynamic analysis of PV tracker systems.
- Perform technical reviews of products to assess the design and manufacturing of PV racking and trackers, with consideration of environmental loads, structural adequacy, drive systems, controls, and tracking algorithms).
- Review manufacturing facilities for compliance with quality/safety procedures and practices.
- Coordinate with internal civil, structural and geotechnical engineers to create and update internal review guidelines, instructions, templates and design tools.
- Proposal preparation for civil work scope for solar services.
- Project management of small to medium projects.
- Work with a geographically diverse team, within North America and internationally.
- Provide a flexible schedule to work with colleagues, customers, and travel for construction visits.
- Provide thought leadership to clients and industry stakeholders via webinars, white papers, conference attendance, trainings and blogs.
Position Qualifications
What is Required
- Bachelor of Science – Structural Engineering
- PE or P.Eng. License.
- 5 to 10 years of structural engineering design including at least 2 years of design and/or research experience of solar tracker and structural support systems such as pile foundations.
- Proficiency in IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NBCC, EuroCode and other common structural design codes.
- Proficiency in SAP, ETABS, RISA 3D, LPILE, Allpile and/or other common structural analysis programs.
- Proficiency in PYTHON, MATHCAD, and/or MATLAB coding for structural engineering applications.
- Proven HSE mindset and demonstrated behavior-based safety mentality.
- Able to work independently and make independent decisions when called for.
- Ability to independently review PV structural design drawings and calculations and perform parallel calculations as required to evaluate trackers for compliance with applicable codes, standards and industry practices.
- 10% to 20% percent domestic travel and 5% travel internationally
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills

What is Preferred:
- Licensure in multiple states
- Structural Engineer (S.E.) License (NCEES SE Exam compliant).
- Familiarity with design standards, load calculations, and test reports used in the PV industry.
- Familiarity designing or evaluating products for compliance with UL 1703, UL 2703, UL 3703, IEC 62817, SEAOC PV-2, ASCE 7.
- Understanding of wind tunnel reports including static, dynamic, aeroelastic and instability studies and the application of these studies to PV racking and tracker design
- Passion about the energy transition

As required by the various Pay Transparency laws, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado, California, Washington, or New York. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the states of Colorado, California, Washington, and New York only, the range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 - $160,000
