Staff Level Environmental Planner - Fire Management

We are actively looking for an entry-to-intermediate Staff-Level Environmental Planner -- Fire Management for our growing western region. This position is a career growth opportunity to join SWCA’s expanding fire and forestry science practice, with increasing levels of responsibility. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse, collaborative team. The role is an hourly, and temporary position. The qualified candidate would support a wide variety of fire science projects in the western US.

What you will accomplish

  • Conduct background research and data collection.
  • Conduct site visits, including preparing surveys and site assessments for projects located in the wildland urban interface and forested landscapes.
  • The preparation of summaries of technical environmental background studies prepared by technical experts.
  • Support forestry and wildfire planning and forest restoration efforts.
  • Work closely with project managers to produce technical documents.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, forestry, fire science or a related field.
  • Experience with forestry, forest ecology, wildfire science, fire management, and/or fire planning.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, and analytical skills.
  • Applicant must be able to work in a team environment, with strong multi- tasking skills and able to work on more than one project at a time, meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in environmental science, forestry, fire science or related field.
  • 1-3 years professional environmental consulting experience.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to improve writing and analysis approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure with schedule constraints.
  • Adobe Acrobat software experience.
  • Knowledge of GIS programs.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA), we are disclosing a good faith estimate of the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado.
