Our Houston, TX office is looking for a self-motivated Staff Environmental Planner with attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Individuals need to be willing and able to work with peers across various offices and accomplish tasks associated with a variety of projects in any given week. The ability to work directly with clients is a plus.
This is a permanent full-time, regular status, non-exempt position, reporting to one of SWCA’s Project Managers out of our Houston office. The selected individual may conduct field or site visits, or attend meetings out of the office up to 10% of the time.
This is an office based position, in our Houston, TX office, with the potential to become hybrid after training.
You will be responsible for contributing to environmental impact analyses, helping to facilitate public and agency outreach, and supporting the development of Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). Specific responsibilities include:
We seek a team member who brings with her/him/they the demonstrated experience in NEPA project management, environmental analysis, and agency consultation. We seek the following specific qualities:
A bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2 years of environmental planning or consulting experience to include: range of environmental compliance projects; supporting project teams; assisting with the preparation of technical studies/ NEPA documents; adhering to project delivery schedules
A working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and Environmental Justice.
Basic understanding of agency internal processes and procedures with regulatory agencies, for example; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Energy (DOE), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; attention to detail; and the ability to work on schedule.

An employee in this Houston, TX-based position can expect an hourly rate between: $24.68-31.50/ hour.
Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
