POSITION SUMMARY
The primary objective of the Staff Accountant is to assist in the preparation and maintenance of accounting and financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the company’s financial statement preparation.
- Prepare monthly deposit transaction summary, including restricted funds analysis.
- General ledger accounting reconciliation.
- Reconcile prepaid expenses, fixed assets, security deposits and prefunded transactions.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Prepare A/R account aging, record depreciation of assets and amortize prepaid insurance.
- Manage and process accounts payable and vendor maintenance.
- Assist in the accruals and close process monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Interface with Auditors and provide Auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform audit.
- Process Accounts Payable, Purchase orders and payments
- Prepare allocation upload for payroll.
- Provide support documentation for cash reporting.
- Process checks deposits via remote scanner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in accounting and finance required.
- Non-Profit experience preferred but not required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Knowledge of accrual accounting
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, MS office365)
- Experience with QuickBooks preferred and knowledge of Airbase and Fathom a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours of Operation: Although organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., some afterhours work will be required occasionally to meet closing cycles.
- Environment: This position works in a typical office setting. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use.
- Travel: This position is not required to travel, however, from time-to-time travel may be necessary for meetings, conferences or special events.
- OSHA Standards: Lifting requirements are 15lbs and when lifting loads heavier than 50lbs, use two or more people to lift the load. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

RELATIONSHIPS
This position is a member of the Accounting & Finance team, reports to the Accounting Manager, interfaces with the VP of Finance, Department Heads and is a co-partner to activities companywide (i.e. inventory, various programs, philanthropy management, government contracts and corporate sponsorships).
