Software Developer

About the opportunity

SWCA is a growing employee-owned firm that provides a full spectrum of environmental services. We are seeking a mid-level Software Developer who is passionate about using technology to help our team of biologists and environmental scientists do their jobs better. You will be joining a dynamic team, and you will participate in all phases of development, including requirements, UX, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.  Most of our solutions involve geospatial concepts and deliverables as we aid our scientists in the real world.

What you will accomplish

  • Work on all levels of the web stack, including back-end and front-end development
  • Develop software solutions that utilize and manipulate geospatial data such as maps, satellite imagery, and GPS data
  • Collaborate with developers, project managers, environmental consultants, scientists, and technologists
  • Build, optimize, and maintain efficient and user-friendly web applications that integrate geospatial data using modern JavaScript (React) and Python
  • Use Git/GitHub flow and deploy software in a cloud environment.
  • Leverage, administer, and develop with Microsoft Azure Cloud technologies
  • Stay up to date with new software trends, including open-source and off-the-shelf solutions and integrations with other systems
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Have a team-oriented approach, and be able to work independently when necessary
  • Be willing and able to learn new technologies and take on different assignments

Experience and qualifications for success

Qualified candidates will demonstrate an appropriate combination of the following additional competencies and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of revevant experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Python standard libraries
  • Experience with modern web technologies such as ES6+, React, REST, JSON, HTML5, CSS3
  • Experience with SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
  • Experience with web development frameworks
  • Prior experience with project ownership by identifying project deliverables, defining goals, setting objectives and tasks, creating a timeline, and delivering results

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science
  • Exposure to AWS (S3, EC2, Lambda, Cognito, RDS, Route53, CloudWatch), or other cloud services
  • Knowledge of microservice architecture
  • Familiarity with Agile development
  • Exposure to Docker

An employee in this Phoenix based position can expect an annual salary of $73,840.00-$96,720.00/year_. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law._  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
