The Position: Senior Technical Writer

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer with a Bachelor’s Degree (any discipline)

and at least eight years of relevant experience to join our team and help us achieve our

ambitious goals for our business and the planet.

● Design, develop, and maintain user documentation and API reference for

enterprise-scale SaaS products with minimal supervision

● Gain product understanding by collaborating with globally distributed subject

matter experts and rigorously using product features and APIs firsthand

● Research and analyze the target audience and perform extensive tests on the

content

● Interact with cross-functional teams to address gaps in documentation

● Create video tutorials and feature demo

● Follow and implement industry standards, practices, and trends

What you will contribute: (Impact you will have at Uplight)

● Accelerate user engagement of the Uplight product documentation

● Build a world-class help system for Uplight’s suite of products

● Participate in developing and executing the user assistance strategy

● Lead the implementation of industry-standard technical writing practices

● Practice user advocacy in daily development activities

What you bring to Uplight: (Experience)

● At least 8+ years of technical writing experience in the enterprise software space

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

● Strong understanding of topic-based authoring and audience analysis

● Experience in collaborating with geographically distributed teams

● Experience in using commercial or open source authoring and version control

systems

● Experience in using a commercial or open source image editing tool

● Good understanding of agile development methodologies

● Passion for technology and empathy for users

● Willingness and ability to work with an international team, delivering technical

writing for a global audience. This will require working with North American

product and engineering colleagues on a daily basis, with some working hour

crossover.

Bonus points:Good to Haves

● Understanding of the docs-as-code publishing workflow

● Understanding of DITA

● Experience in the following domains:

o Electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution

o Industrial automation

o Data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence

o Software-as-a-service

o DevOps

● Experience in creating API and SDK documentation

● Experience in scripting and programming (any language)

● Experience in writing in-app instructions

● Program management skills
