Overall Function
As a leading environmental advocacy organization, EDF engages with and relies upon the partnership of a wide group of audiences - from donors and grassroots activists to corporate executives to state and Federal policy makers. To achieve our long-term growth and impact objectives, EDF requires bold and creative thinking in the digital marketing space.
The Digital Advertising Senior Specialist is a key member of the Acquisition Team, reporting to our Director of Acquisition Strategy. They will enhance the organization’s digital sophistication in the use of online advertising to influence and engage our target audiences. The Senior Specialist will develop, execute and optimize high-quality digital marketing campaigns designed to acquire and cultivate online donors and activists, as well as audiences critical to achieving our program work. They will work closely with the Content Team and Program staff to support their online advertising needs. Additionally, the Senior Specialist will assist in the donor and advocacy growth of our sister organizations EDF Action, Defend our Future and Mom’s Clean Air Force, as needed.
This role is a remote opportunity based in the U.S., preferably within the Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA areas.
Key Responsibilities
Developing the strategy, building the media plan and managing paid advertising to support campaign goals in all platforms including paid search, social, display, native, and video.
Creating and managing the annual online advertising budget for specific audience segments and individual ad-hoc campaign budgets as requested, including monitoring fulfillment and reporting.
Building effective display and search marketing efforts based on keyword, placement, topic, audience, demographics, and interests, looking for opportunities to automate and increase the efficiency of production processes.
Helping develop and optimize audience journeys for specific targets, using strategic thinking, creative storytelling, and innovative paid outreach.
Developing and managing testing strategies in order to improve conversion value and/or campaign performance.
Working in tandem with the Content Team to guide the development of brand content and creative.
In collaboration with the larger Performance Marketing Team, tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of campaign performance, making necessary adjustments in real time to creative and online media investments to achieve an optimal ROI, and clearly presenting results to key stakeholders.
In collaboration with the larger Performance Marketing Team, identifying first- and third-party data appends that can lend more effectiveness to campaigns.
Staying current on online advertising trends and audience targeting, regularly making recommendations for digital acquisition initiatives, as well as other online advertising initiatives across the organization.
Helping develop best practices and guidelines to support more efficient and effective ad buys across the organization. Creating and maintaining documentation for production processes; providing training as needed.
Serving as one of the main in-house subject matter experts for paid digital promotions by leading presentations, interacting with senior staff, conducting meetings and guiding the overall implementation and use of digital advertising at EDF.
Helping research, evaluate, select and onboard new advertising partners and vendors.
Working closely with the broader Marketing department to make sure all online advertising takes a full-funnel and cross-channel approach.
Participating in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Qualifications
At least five (5) years of digital marketing experience with a solid understanding of online advertising, search marketing, display advertising, creative design, landing page optimization, testing, ad serving technologies, and analytics.
Current and prior experience managing campaigns of $100,000 and higher.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Ability to translate strategy into tactics, and ideas into action.
Ability to self-motivate, set objectives and help manage performance of vendors.
Experience working with cross-functional teams in partnership with others in a collaborative or advisory role.
Independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
Creativity.
Knowledge of environmental issues and the political and legislative process.
Proficiency with Google Ads, Demand Side Platforms, and Google Campaign Manager preferred.
Experience managing advertising for multiple campaigns and clients preferred, using source codes, pixels, and web tracking infrastructure to collect and measure data.
Proficiency with Google Analytics and other analytics programs. Experience with Tableau preferred.
