Senior Software Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet.

**What you will contribute:
**
You will work within the Platform Analytics team to design, build, and deploy cutting-edge data pipelines, analytic services, and APIs that help our customers understand and reduce their energy usage and carbon footprint.

What you get to do:

• Work as an engineer in a Platform Analytics engineering team, primarily developing in Python and leveraging a wide range of technologies, notably: FastAPI, Docker, PostgreSQL, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark/Databricks, and GCP

• Take problems from inception all the way to completion - own the building, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the code that you work on

• Tackle complex problems that span a wide range of technical abilities, including:

• Developing data pipelines to transform and process data between systems

• Productionize machine learning pipelines leveraging billions of rows of data

• Scaling our software to handle the ever-growing customer data

• Surfacing analytics through microservice APIs

• Work effectively on an Agile team and collaborate well with your other team members and members of the other Platform Analytics teams.

• Guide technical and architectural decisions

• Mentor junior team members

What you bring to Uplight:

• You are an accomplished developer with 6+ years of professional experience
• Proven experience developing production code in Python (we generally use 3.7+) and solid knowledge of one major web framework such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
• Proven experience building data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to process large volumes of different types of data
• Familiarity with Airflow, Spark, Databricks, and/or other similar data processing technologies
• Experience developing services and APIs on top of medium to large data sets, ideally with both SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Redshift, MongoDB, etc.)
• Solid understanding of REST design principles
• Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or other cloud service provider experience (GCP ideal)
• Experience with managing infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Understanding of the agile software development lifecycle, including scoping, detailed  design, effort estimation, implementation, debugging, maintenance and support
• Demonstrable knowledge of how to write effective unit and functional tests
• Curiosity around all things data and analytics and a desire to work cross-functionally with data scientists and data engineers
• BS in Computer Science / Engineering / Mathematics, or demonstrable industry experience

Bonus Points:

• Experience collaborating closely with data scientists to build analytical models
• Knowledge of Pandas / SciPy / Numpy / ScikitLearn or other Python data science libraries
• Experience with building solutions around processing and managing big volumes of streaming data
• Knowledge of Java and Scala

Salary Range: $120,000 to $150,000

In accordance with Canadian market data the approximate annual base compensation range is listed above. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
