Context and role
E3G’s new centre for political economy of climate change is powered by a climate-focused political economy mapping methodology (PEMM) to bring a step change in the political economy capabilities of the climate community. At our new Climate Transformation Hub, we will bring together analysis in a knowledge platform and connect stakeholders to drive ambitious climate strategies and action.
With experience in 30 countries and multiple sectors, E3G is now working with partners to scale and professionalise capability for core political economy analysis with a research and analysis programme spanning up to 20 countries in the next 3 years, along with convening, training and capacity building, strategic advisory support and thought leadership.
This is an exciting opportunity to play an active role in research and analysis working with the E3G PEMM tool, contribute to a range of political economy analytical products in a wide range of sectors and economies, and share your analysis and insight with many national and international partners. About you
You will bring a strong track record of research and analysis in projects in areas relevant to political economy, climate politics and sectoral and societal transitions. You will be adept at working across a diverse range of sectoral, economic and governance areas and in multiple countries and reaching analytical judgments to conform with defined strategic objectives. You will be skilled at adapting research approaches to project context and working with a range of partners and stakeholders, in the research process and in practical application and dissemination of research. You will be ready to contribute practical expertise on research and product development as well as increasingly in subject areas relevant to political economy and climate change in key sectors and countries.
Key Responsibilities
The key job responsibilities for this role are:
Carry out primary and secondary research projects to assess country and sectoral political economy connected with climate action and transitions.
Develop analysis and insight based on research and prepare a range of analytical products including reports, presentations and briefings.
Monitor developments and make rapid political economy assessments and identify new thematic areas for further research.
Provide training, advice and support to E3G teams and to wider community on political economy mapping tools and methods, including contributing to training and capacity building
Develop a network of research practitioners at other organisations in civil society and academia.
Support preparations and running of workshops and meetings internally and with external partners and stakeholders and contribute expert analysis and insight to inform partners and stakeholders
Develop and maintain a good working knowledge on practical research methods, political economy and governance issues related to climate action and transitions, and over time develop and maintain a robust, in-depth knowledge in a select number of relevant venues, sectors or issues
International travel may be required from time to time.
Person specification
We’re looking for a successful candidate who can demonstrate a range of qualifications, competencies and experience to fit the role, including:
A high quality degree and ideally a post graduate qualification in a relevant area
Several years of high quality professional experience with a strong research and analytical focus
Working knowledge in one or more of these areas: climate change politics and policy, democracy, rule of law, governance, environment, political economy
Strong research, analytical and thinking skills with intellectual curiosity and creativity and proficiency working with complex information and databases
Demonstrated ability to reach judgements and develop sound analysis and insight based on research and evidence
Supportive, collaborative and open colleague and team player
Well organised, proactive and practical with a strong commitment to delivering desired outputs, results and outcomes
Adept at presenting clear, accessible analysis in written form and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues
Proficient at working across a wide range of subject areas and countries, information sources, and with diverse stakeholders with an openness to learning.

Further Details
This role is based in E3G’s London office. E3G offers flexible working arrangements and operates a hybrid working approach. We are open to exploring optimal working arrangements with the successful candidate. International travel is required as part of this role.
E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the jurisdiction in which E3G employs them. E3G is unable to provide relocation assistance or visa support.
A remuneration package competitive with the non-profit sector will be offered. The salary is up to £39,000 per annum depending on experience. Benefits include 25 days of paid leave plus additional leave between Christmas and new year; travel and hospitalisation insurance; generous pension contribution.
