Senior Project Manager

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, an international non-profit organisation putting human rights at the heart of business and tackling abuse, is seeking a dynamic Senior Project Manager to join our team.

  • Location: remote, based out of Bangladesh.
  • Contract type: 1 year consultancy contract with possibility of extension, full-time (35 hours/week).
  • Compensation: GBP 42,000-44,000 depending on experience.

The successful candidate will be a strong advocate with experience working with labour rights, grassroots-led social justice groups, and/or trade union movements in Bangladesh. They will have strong project management, donor/grant management and reporting experience with expertise in building and implementing strategies and partnerships to deliver decent work and corporate accountability, specifically in the garment and agriculture sectors. They will be a member of a thriving, international team, and report to the Asia Regional Manager. Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager will:

Lead and manage a funded project to ensure labour rights for workers in a just transition in Bangladesh: With members of the Resource Centre’s Global Team, directly work with two key partners on the ground to deliver a 2-year project focused on (1) strengthening networks of workers and climate advocates to build more inclusive and transformative approaches to a just transition, (2) strengthening the capacity of workers, particularly women, migrant, and informal sector workers, to organize and adapt to the green economy transition and (3) empowering workers and climate advocates to create and pursue an inclusive advocacy strategy on just transition. We will do this through taking up allegations of abuse internationally and supporting learning and knowledge-building through trainings using worker-driven and worker-led approaches.

Lead on project operations management – key objectives of this role are:

  • Manage the budget, adjusting forecasts and plans as needed , and manage the implementation of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning strategies for the project, and strategic reviews.
  • Be first point of liaison with donor on both programmatic and operational aspects.
  • Ensure the Resource Centre complies with the donor’s specific terms and conditions.
  • Prepare, update and monitor finances including the financial and narrative reporting in compliance with donor terms and conditions.

Collaborate with team members to drive effective, strategic and accurate communication: create, develop, and implement communications strategies in support of workers – including supporting research, data collection and overseeing key outputs that deliver outcomes for workers and support corporate accountability narratives.

Contribute to organisational labour rights strategies: As a key member of the Asia team, the Senior Project Manager shall support the implementation and continuous assessment of the Resource Centre’s regional, labour rights and just transition strategy within and outside of the organisation. They must also be responsive to regional and sectoral context, security concerns, and other relevant factors, that may demand diverse approaches that are responsive to the work of our partners and allies.

Take on other responsibilities: Proactively manage other responsibilities as necessary for the health and development of the organization.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • At least 6-8 years’ experience in project management (across finance, budgeting, documenting, reporting and monitoring & evaluation) and ability to effectively utilise available resources to deliver on strategic goals, we specifically seek someone with:
    • Experience of managing large institutional grants (preferably a US agency grant).
    • Experience of managing large multi-year budgets.
  • At least 6-8 years’ experience working on project management related to corporate accountability issues with workers, unions and labour organisations, through partnerships and solidarity initiatives, in Bangladesh or the Global South.
  • A track record of developing successful program strategies to effect change. Experience tailoring outputs for diverse international audiences and advocacy experience an asset.
  • Familiarity with the just transition and its impact on workers and workers’ rights
  • Self-starter and adept decision-maker: Driven to make change happen, and experience in delivering high impact work with remote and limited
  • At least 4 years’ experience of working in high performing multi-cultural and international teams, playing a leadership role working with colleagues to deliver high impact programs. Ability to train and nurture talent. Experience with remote, inter-disciplinary, and culturally diverse teams.
  • Location: Candidates based in Bangladesh are strongly preferred, though being based in other South Asian or Global South countries may be considered depending on the circumstancses.
  • Language: Strong English and Bangla skills are required.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Commitment to the Resource Centre’s vision of putting human rights at the core of companies’ business models and a demonstrable commitment to our model of change as articulated our Strategic Plan 2021-2024.
  • A clear understanding, vision, and strategic insight on human and labour rights in business from a Global South perspective
  • Extensive experience in strategic research and analysis that platforms and amplify the demands of workers and the labour Strong attention to detail and understanding of research methodologies.
  • Commitment to, and at least five years’ experience working with diverse international partners and building coalitions with shared objectives and targeted outcomes. This will range from strategic alliances with workers’ organisations from the Global South to tactical collaborations with allies in the human rights and labour
