DNV Energy Systems’ group has an exciting opportunity for a Generation Interconnection (GI) Engineer, in its Renewables & Power Grids group. Our team provides creative, cost-effective, and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The GI Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to North America's growth and evolution of the Power Systems Advisory business. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and delighting customers with excellent customer service.
This position will ideally be based in our DNV offices in Toronto, Montreal or Calgary.
What You’ll Do
- Perform steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit, and/or PSCAD model development for renewable and conventional generation resources including Solar, Storage, Wind, and Gas turbines
- Perform model benchmarking analysis and system-wide power flow analysis including steady-state, dynamic stability, and short-circuit analysis.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the area(s) related to grid reliability and/or energy markets
- Serve as a Project Manager for small to medium projects
- Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
- Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of the development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
- Cultivate new customer relationships, assist in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP), and provide Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for new tenders/bids/opportunities
Position Qualifications
What is Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- In-depth understanding of the fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
- Minimum 4 + years of hands-on experiences with power-system tools PSS/E, Power-world, and PSCAD
- Direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning-related analyses in transmission planning and/or resource interconnection
- Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies, NERC standards, and ISO/RTO resource interconnection model requirements
- Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
What is Preferred
- Active PE License
- Graduate-level degree with an emphasis on Electric Power Systems
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including TSAT, TARA, ASPEN, PSLF, CYME, ETAP, Synergie Electric and/or DIGSILENT, EMTP-RV, PSLF, AUTOCAD AutoDesk
- Track record of project management and/or successful completion of project management-related training
- Minimum three (3+) years of experience in resource interconnection working with a consultant
- Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python
