Local Unit & Position Description

DNV’s APAC Power Grid department is looking for a Senior Power System Engineer to join our Power System Planning team in Australia. The team is based in Melbourne.

As a Power System Engineer, you will contribute to a wide range of projects in Australia and within the Asia Pacific region. Working on complex, unique and rewarding projects such as HVDC systems and Hybrid renewable projects. You will be joining an established team of power system engineers working collaboratively together. We take great pride in delivering quality results for our customers.

We are seeking a candidate experienced in the Australian grid connections process that has experience in PSSE and PSCAD software and completing NER Chapter 5 connection application studies.

Position Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of power system engineering and grid integration of conventional and non-conventional generators within Australia
  • Proficiency in Power Systems Analysis tools such as PSS®E, and  PSCAD
  • Proficient in writing technical reports and presenting to the client
  • Good communication skills and experience in building relationships with clients
  • Ability to work independently to solve complex tasks
  • A team player with a proactive attitude
  • Familiarity with applicable standards, i.e. IEC, IEEE
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multidisciplinary environment
  • Desire and the ability to understand and maintain an overview of a wide range of technical domains such as generator control tuning, ancillary services, primary system design, protection and HVDC

The following competencies are considered advantageous:

  • Plant control model development knowledge (PSSE, PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink, PowerFactory)
  • Python scripting knowledge within the PSSE and PSCAD domain
  • Protection design at the generation and substation level
