SENIOR POLICY ADVISOR, STEEL TRANSITION, BRUSSELS OR BERLIN

Role
E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.
Based in the Industry Transition and Trade team, this Senior Policy Advisor role will lead E3G’s strategy on accelerating steel sector decarbonisation and transformation in Europe and beyond. The successful candidate will work to activate a wider community of organizations on steel decarbonisation, co-convene and coordinate the European Fossil Free Steel Network, identify hooks for campaigning and closely follow international developments on steel. The role will combine coalition building with political analysis and engagement.
The role will require experience working with civil society, government and industry stakeholders, and (ideally) a good understanding of industry decarbonization. However, we are open to candidates with experience and knowledge of other sectors (e.g. coal phaseout in the power sector, energy transition more broadly) who are keen for a new challenge.
We are open to more junior profiles and can adjust the seniority level and salary, depending on the candidate’s experience.
Key responsibilities
Lead on E3G’s strategy to accelerate steel decarbonization in Europe and beyond, in collaboration with the wider Clean Economy and EU teams.
Work in close collaboration with Beyond Fossil Fuels to develop a campaigning strategy on steel transition, convening civil society actors, undertaking analysis, understanding the politics of change, building coalitions and leading interventions around steel sector decarbonization in Europe and internationally;
Monitoring key policy debates and developments in Europe and internationally related to steel sector decarbonization and industrial policy and interpreting them in the context of E3G’s work;
Engaging with and helping to convene key stakeholders in government, civil society and the private sector;
Organising and participating in stakeholder discussions and workshops; managing relationships with stakeholders;
Contributing to the wider development of E3G as an organisation;
Travel may be required, but we are open to discussing this if this would otherwise become a barrier to your application.
