Senior Markets Analyst, Transportation Markets

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Transportation Markets team works to support meaningful pathways to reduce transportation emissions for a wide range of partners including corporations, utilities companies, 3rd party contractors, fleet operations, logistics providers, municipalities, public transportation agencies and more. 3Degrees helps clients understand the range of solutions and how to best leverage them to meet their unique business needs and sustainability goals.  We are seeking a Market Analyst with expertise in data analytics and critical market research, bringing knowledge of the transportation commodity markets, to  join an innovative, mission-driven team in a role that requires focus, persistence, and dynamism.

This is a full-time, non-exempt role reporting to the Director, Transportation Markets within the Environmental Markets division.  This position is located in our San Francisco, CA or Portland, OR office. Exceptional remote candidates may also be considered.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Markets Analyst joins the Environmental Markets team which manages the environmental commodity business at 3Degrees.  This person supports our internal market and pricing analysis efforts.  The ideal candidate has experience with carbon offsets, transportation markets, and market fundamentals modeling.  Position responsibilities include:

  • Developing comprehensive supply and demand models to support 3Degrees’ business, including:

  • Sourcing and evaluating data sources for relevance and accuracy

  • Constructing quantitative state, regional, and national fundamentals models for transportation commodity markets, including the interactions among and between those markets

  • Conducting research and analysis to help guide the development of a trading strategy to include:

  • Executing weekly scheduled pricing and portfolio reporting

  • Assisting our Regulatory Affairs team with research on potential legislative, regulatory, or policy changes impacting transportation commodity markets

  • Analyzing and modeling potential regulatory changes to assess the risk and/or opportunities they present

  • Identifying, incorporating, and publishing market insights based on external datasets and reports

  • Packaging analyses and insights to clearly communicate market drivers and their impacts

  • Run and maintain Excel-VBA-based modeling and reporting tools to help guide portfolio decisions

  • Coordinate pricing and market narratives with other business units within the company

  • Enhance business reporting by collecting trading commentary and insights

ABOUT YOU

You are an adept Excel jockey with a knack for figuring out creative ways to overlay data in a manner that provides critical analytical insight to our trading teams. You have experience investigating market trends, constructing multifaceted supply and demand models, and graphing pricing in a way that clearly shows trends. Additionally, your desire to learn the ins and outs of the transportation commodity markets drives you to add your own flavor to your work, whether it be legislative knowledge, market commentary, or industry hearsay. Candidates who possess the following qualifications have an excellent opportunity to thrive in this role:

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of professional experience and education
  • 3 years plus of professional experience in financial/fundamentals modeling
  • An understanding of transportation commodities markets preferred
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment balancing competing demands toward mutual goals
  • Excellent presentation skills. Ability to succinctly convey information to team members
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain composure under pressure
  • Strong independent learning skills coupled with a successful track record of self-driven analytical investigations
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and diligent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, with a genuine desire to accelerate the growth of environmental markets in the US and abroad
  • Experience using SQL or Tableau is a plus

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS

Within 90 days

  • You clearly demonstrate an ability to independently add depth to market analyses through investigative creativity, such as including relevant industry news, regulatory considerations, or other pertinent commentary
  • You have taken ownership of routine reporting tools and can demonstrate that you understand their relevance to portfolio management

Within 120 days

  • You are the primary owner of all fundamentals models for the Transportation portfolio

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Compensation: The minimum and maximum salary for this position is $67,053 to $100,800 in the US. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, role requirements, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise

  • Supplemental Pay: this position is eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company’s profit sharing program and an annual team Bonus Pool.
