Senior Manufacturing/Process Engineer

Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking a Senior Manufacturing/Process Engineer to work on the Advanced Manufacturing Team, playing a pivotal role in our growth.

Position Overview

As an influential team member playing an impactful role, is a strong collaborator who easily and readily engages with other engineering disciplines to design novel solutions to complex utility scale energy storage challenges using Ambri’s LiquidTM Metal Battery technology. As an innovative problem solver, is responsible for driving progress, providing technical leadership, working cross functionally, and communicating effectively with internal and external constituents.  With a broad background in designing and implementing complex systems, is both hands-on and a mentor.

Responsibilities**:**

  • Apply best-practice manufacturing principles and process knowledge to support creating a Pilot Line manufacturing capability for battery cells and energy-storage systems
  • Oversee and manage a small team of engineers and technicians; recruit, train and mentor engineering talent
  • Ensure Controls architecture supports MES and ERP information systems
  • Drive specifications for procurement of Pilot Line and High-Volume Chemical Process and Mechanical Automation systems
  • Work cross functionally to define quality requirements for traceability
  • Communicate clearly the capability of a system-level manufacturing concepts to appropriate stakeholders
  • Gather feedback/input from cross-discipline technical experts to communicate subsystem and system-level designs from design process into production
  • Support the development of design verification and system validation plans and evaluate analytical and experimental test results to verify that manufacturing processes meet internal technical requirements
  • Work with selected suppliers to meet project timelines
  • Develop a full set of manufacturing process equipment specifications and requirements to enable full duplication of initial system
  • Utilize experience to mitigate potential failures for complex systems and components
  • Provide critical feedback to mechanical design team for making CAD design and engineering changes to existing designs in production to support product quality and manufacturability

Requirements**:**

  • 6+ years’ relevant experience, ideally in manufacturing systems engineering designs and operations, and in increasingly complex roles

  • Hands-on experience with integrating mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems

  • Experience, preferred, with automation system integration including PLC programming, data capture and data base communication

  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability of holding self and others accountable to meeting commitments

  • Confidence and experience operating effectively, even when things are uncertain, or the way forward is not clear

  • Track record of holding self and others accountable to meet commitments

  • Excellent communication skills and the proven ability to work with high level stakeholders

  • Strong team player

  • Strong process development capability with quality, cost, and throughput considerations

  • CAD 3D component and assembly design and 2D drawing creations

  • Advanced battery pack design and electronic assemblies, a plus
