About the Job

We are currently seeking a Senior Managing Data Engineer/Data Manager with a strong database design and data engineering background to join our Environmental Data Management and Analytics team. The successful candidate will help direct data management and analytics projects and support growth through talent acquisition and  business development. This person will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with senior leadership from all practice areas, assisting with identification of value-added data management and analytics solutions for our portfolio of environmental science and engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of data managers and analysts in support of internal and external clients, and be expected to foster development of future environmental analytics leaders.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Managing Data Engineer/Data Manager, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Increasing growth of the Environmental Data Management and Analytics team through business development, talent acquisition and management, and development of analytics leaders
  • Working with project staff and senior management to increase efficiency in collection, cleaning, storage, and sharing of data
  • Supporting existing data management processes and tools, while also researching and developing additional options based on current and future needs
  • Maintaining quality assurance, version control, and documentation of data management activities
  • Identifying opportunities to add value to new and existing clients through application of environmental data management and analytics
  • Providing technical and strategic leadership on data management and analytics projects and technical leadership on application of data management and analytics to environmental problems
  • Working with Integral practice groups to develop case studies and marketing materials
  • Managing simultaneous projects including scope and budget development, schedules, delivery of high-quality technical work products, and client relationships
  • Communicating data management and analytical methods and results to technical and non-technical audiences, including team members, stakeholders, government agencies, and clients
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (data managers, engineers, environmental scientists) to develop and implement data management and analysis plans to support environmental investigations
  • Preparing technical reports summarizing data management and analytical methods and results in a clear, concise manner
  • Tracking new technologies and trends in data management and analysis and their applications to the environmental industry

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in an environmental field and have 8+ years of experience working as a data manager in an environmental consulting role. Candidates with a degree in another quantitative field (e.g., data analytics/science, statistics, applied math, or engineering) with commensurate data management experience and a strong interest in environmental data management are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience with management and processing of data from disparate data streams with varying volume and complexity
  • 8+ years experience using relational database management systems and SQL
  • 5+ years of experience leading data management and analytics teams, including mentoring and staff development
  • Working knowledge of environmental sampling lifecycle and management of data generated (e.g., analytical chemistry results, geospatial data, sensor data)
  • Strong programming experience in Python and R, including the knowledge and best practices of integrating these programs into the data life cycle
  • Keen sense for identifying ways of applying data management and analytical methods developed in other fields to current client needs in the environmental science and engineering sector
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to accurately scope and budget data management projects in a consulting environment
  • Experience with cloud data storage and computing
  • Proficiency with code versioning tools, such as Git
  • A desire to grow intellectually and professionally in the discipline of environmental data management and analytics
  • Flexibility to work both in office and remotely
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with current MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years working as an environmental consultant in a data management role
  • History of business generation through leverage of existing client base and through new client development
  • PostgreSQL server administration
  • Linux server administration
  • Demonstrated experience building data pipelines for analysis software to connect to project databases
  • Experience with collection, cleaning, management, and sharing of high volume, near-real time data streams.
