Location:                 Remote - Worldwide (with significant overlap with US business hours)

Reports to:             Director, Auditing and Accreditation

With the rapid growth in carbon markets driving a new wave of project development, Verra is seeking a Senior Manager, Validation/Verification Quality Control, primarily responsible for developing and managing a program for validation/verification body (VVB) site assessment audits. This is a new position in the Auditing and Accreditation Team, itself part of the Program Management Team (PMT). You will work alongside other Auditing and Accreditation Team managers and colleagues responsible for VVB quality assurance and training.

A day with Verra’s Auditing and Accreditation Team might include…

  • Preparing a checklist with customized guidance for an upcoming VVB site assessment visit to be conducted by a Verra colleague.
  • Accompanying a VVB on a site assessment visit, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Reviewing and making a recommendation on a VVB application for accreditation approval under a Verra program.
  • Participating in an accreditation body committee meeting to review new VVB accreditation applications, assess on-going VVB performance and provide input to accreditation policy.

Specific functions you will be responsible for leading...

  • Managing the VVB site assessment process to monitor VVB performance, including:
    • Developing and maintaining the procedures, checklists and tools for colleagues conducting VVB site assessments.
    • Monitoring VVB project site visit notifications to determine which VVBs/projects to visit.
    • Identifying and liaising with colleagues to send on VVB onsite assessments.
    • Coordinating site assessment planning with VVB staff.
    • Ensuring VVB site assessment findings are captured in the VVB performance management system.
  • Managing applications by VVBs for accreditation approval under Verra’s programs.
  • Coordinate with accreditation bodies on accreditation approvals, VVB surveillance activities and VVB performance issues and or/disciplinary actions.
  • Contributing to and participating in trainings on quality management and related topics for internal and external audiences (i.e., VVBs, accreditation bodies and Verra colleagues).
  • Working with colleagues to improve Verra’s program rules to facilitate better auditing.
  • Keeping abreast of updates to international sustainability standards, particularly the ISO 14064, 14065, and 17029 suite to ensure Verra programs align with best practices, including attending IAF meetings and participating in ISO technical committees.
  • Supporting the Director, Accreditation, in their work to develop social and environmental accreditation programs with accreditation bodies.

You bring with you...

  • At least ten years of relevant professional experience, with at least three years working for or with VVBs or accreditation bodies, ideally doing GHG project certification or sustainable development project certification.
  • Strong understanding of the standards and principles of auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating, and reporting to determine a quality system's adequacy and deficiencies.
  • Quality control experience and/or quality auditor certification.
  • Experience working with the ISO 14064, 14065, and 17029 suite of standards.
  • Cultural awareness with the ability to work with stakeholders and partners from different countries and cultures.
  • A relevant university degree; a master’s degree would be advantageous.
  • Fluency in English is essential. Fluency in other UN languages would be an advantage.

  • Building a comprehensive system to oversee the work of VVBs performing validation and verification audits to Verra standards.
  • Working with VVBs to identify effective ways to improve the auditing process for projects seeking certification under the VCS Program and Verra’s sustainable development programs.
  • Working at the cutting edge of an auditing program that is critical to driving finance towards high-impact activities.

  • The quality of audits conducted by accredited VVBs regularly meets rigorous quality standards.
  • Verra does not have to return project documentation to VVBs due to poor quality.
  • Verra develops a clear means of keeping VVBs accountable for the quality of their work, and all aspects of VVB work (e.g., procedures, reports, site visits) are regularly assessed.

Compensation at Verra

To help us attract and retain top talent, Verra pays employees competitively to the market. In return, we expect each employee to, at a minimum:

For this position, the salary range is USD 90,474 – 102,830, depending on experience.

We will recognize employees who go beyond expected performance with salary increases and/or promotions, but the bar for earning those rewards is high.

Salary is one component of Verra’s total compensation package which also includes:

  • Health, vision and dental care, and life insurance;
  • Verra contributions to each employee’s retirement plan;
  • Verra contributions as required by national labor laws in countries where staff are located;
  • Paid Time Off (PTO), comprising 22-30 days plus eleven floating holidays, sabbatical after five years of service, and other leave allowances; and
