The Century Foundation is hiring a

Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of the Disability Economic Justice Team

💼 Hybrid 🇺🇸 Washington, DC, US 📝 FULL-TIME 🎯 EXPERIENCED

Washington, D.C. | Salary Range: $145,000 - $155,000

The Century Foundation (TCF) is a progressive think tank on the frontlines of building a fairer and more inclusive economy, one that works for all of us and not just the wealthy few. The newest program at TCF is our Disability Economic Justice team, which is the only project at a U.S. think tank singularly focused on achieving economic justice for people with disabilities more than 33 years after the Americans with Disabilities Act became law.

In April 2022, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, TCF’s Disability Economic Justice team launched the Disability Economic Justice Collaborative—a first-of-its-kind initiative that brings together more than 30 leading disability advocacy organizations, Washington, D.C.-based think tanks, and top research and policy organizations to learn from each other, work in partnership, and apply disability as a lens across economic policymaking. The Collaborative is committed to breaking the persistent link between disability and poverty, and to finally achieving economic security for disabled Americans more than three decades after the ADA became law. To learn more about the collaborative, visit DEJC.org.

Now, our Disability Economic Justice team seeks a senior fellow and deputy director of the team. This role will directly coordinate with the team’s director, Kimberly Knackstedt, Ph.D., in carrying out the team’s work plan and the Collaborative’s strategic plan. In addition, the Disability Economic Justice Team is seeking an individual to carry out a policy and research, with a lens of disability across domestic policy.

The position is based in TCF’s Washington, D.C. office. Remote candidates may be considered for this position. TCF offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience as well as competitive benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and carrying out research and publishing research and policy reports to advance the economic wellbeing of people with disabilities.
  • Drafting and writing policy commentaries to support current policy events that are connected to the goals and values of the DEJ team and Collaborative goals.
  • Supporting, co-leading, and carrying out the Disability Economic Justice Collaborative’s strategic plan, including monthly meetings and learning agenda sessions.
  • Coordinating with the Director of the DEJ team to seek and maintain funding to support the goals of the team and Collaborative.
  • Collaborating with teams across The Century Foundation to bring a Disability Economic Justice lens to all work internally and externally.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree desired in related field.
  • Substantial research experience with a history of publications , which may include either quantitative, qualitative, policy analysis, and/or mixed methods.
  • A clear understanding of federal public policy as it relates to disabled people in the United States.
  • Strong attention to detail, a demonstration of project management skills, and organizing abilities, such as event coordination, planning long term research projects, or organizing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, ideally for both expert and popular audiences.
  • Strong commitment to progressive policy change, public service, and disability economic justice.
  • Some experience in seeking funding through philanthropic grants and grant management.
