Overview / Responsibilities
Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a SeniorĀ Estimator. Reporting to the Director of Project Controls, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for directing the estimating effort for large industrial projects from conceptual design through planning and construction. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare all levels of capital cost estimates from Order of Magnitude to detail for mining and other heavy industrial projects
- Plan and manage the estimating schedule and process
- Establish estimate methodology
- Define estimate inputs, coordinate and provide direction to all parties responsible for the capital cost estimate
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to support capital cost estimates
- Perform high-level analysis of project quantities and costs for reasonableness
- Understand and direct effort to focus on significant cost drivers
- Anticipate overlaps and gaps in costing and is proactively pursue resolution
- Prepare presentations and present estimates to internal management and client management
- Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation to support estimate preparation and review
- Estimate contingency and escalation using in-house models
- Actively participate in contingency discussions and recommendations
- Establish good working relationships with staff, engineering discipline leads, department and project managers and clients
- Keep stakeholders fully informed of progress and ensure their buy-in to the estimate plan
- Supervise and mentor a small team of estimators
- Produce capital cost estimates of high quality that are defendable
Skills / Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years experience in estimating and leading capital cost estimates for mining or heavy industrial projects in an EPC/EPCM setting
- Previous lead estimator experience on mining projects and field experience is prefered
- Demonstrated experience with estimating costs for international projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven capability in delivering presentations to senior management
- Effective organizational skills, strong work ethic and leadership skills
- Demonstrated skill and ability to identify and solve problems in a prompt and decisive manner
- Sound knowledge of construction processes
- Knowledge of the AACEI estimate classifications and guidelines
- An engineering degree or engineering technologist diploma will be considered an asset
- Experience in mining and estimating heavy civil works would be considered to be an asset
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
