Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking a Senior Environmental Site Assessment/Excess Soils Professional to join our multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available in any one of our Ontario offices or remote locations will be considered depending on the experience of the candidate.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Project Management and/or Technical Work (80%)
- Lead/oversee the environmental site assessment and excess soils management teams on fast paced transit infrastructure, land development and environmental due diligence projects, including technical reviews of deliverables
- Manage and lead projects related to the assessment and management of environmental contaminants in soil, groundwater, and other media, including phased environmental site assessments (ESAs) and the Record of Site Condition (O.Reg. 153 RSC) process, excess soils management (O.Reg. 406/19) and/or remediation in Ontario
- Act as main point of contact/client liaison to communicate technical and project management information to client teams
- Comply with corporate, client, and site-specific health and safety protocols and programs and applicable health and safety regulations
- Respond to Requests for Proposal related to ESA and excess soils work to develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Prepare and manage: health and safety programs for field projects, coordinate field programs (related to collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediments, indoor air, soil vapour, etc), prepare project contracts and agreements, complete sub-contractor selection and oversight, and organize/manage field teams
- Work with senior specialists, lead the management and interpretation of data including the presentation of data in data tables and figures
- Manage multiple simultaneous environmental projects involving teams of environmental staff and specialists
- Experience with geological/geotechnical investigations (e.g., tunnelling, mining, aggregate) considered an asset
Business Development and Administration (17%)
- Provide support to client account management teams
- Coordinate, manage and build business relationships with: clients, regulators, service providers (e.g., laboratories, sub-contractor) and third-party stakeholders
- Business travel may be required from time to time
- Support office based committees or other corporate initiatives
Learning and Development (3%)
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- Ten or more years of experience in environmental consulting or related industrial and/or contracting experience, including project management
- A degree in environmental engineering, geoscience, or another relevant environmental discipline.
- Professional designation or eligibility to achieve professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo) within six months, preferably in Ontario
- In depth knowledge of the regulations governing contaminated sites and environmental work in Ontario (e.g. O.Reg. 153, O. Reg. 903, O. Reg. 406, R.R.O. Reg. 347, etc.)
- Has or is fully able to obtain Federal Security Status (Reliability or greater) and satisfactorily passes a police check
- Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.

- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products
- Valid Driver’s License
Experience
- Proven experience managing multiple ESA and excess soils related projects
- Experience as the lead Qualified Person for Environmental Site Assessments (e.g., signing off on RSCs, lead roles on large projects)
- Experience in providing technical guidance to external and internal stakeholders regarding excess soils regulation in Ontario (O. Reg. 406/19)
- Experience in the development and implementation of Risk Management Plans in the support of Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments submitted under the O.Reg. 153/04 Record of Site Condition process to support the issuances of Certificates of Property Use considered an asset.
- Technical proficiency in several or many of one or more of the following will be considered an asset: site characterization, geology, hydrogeology, field procedures, geo-chemistry, remediation, cost estimation, contracting/construction administration and/or observation, hazardous materials, risk assessment, data management, health and safety.
- Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators
- Management of projects in both remote and urban locations
- Demonstrated capabilities in multidisciplinary teamwork as well as the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated capability and comfort presenting technical and project management information to clients, regulators and members of the public
