ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Environmental Planner | Hauppauge, NY

The successful candidate will assist with the management of a team of professionals involved in planning, environmental review, and economic development.  Duties include assisting with the development and implementation of strategies for development of real estate, institutional and/or governmental projects, project management, business development, and client relationship management.

In addition to leading high-profile environmental/planning projects and assisting in the Director of Environmental Planning in business development efforts, the Senior Environmental Planner will also be responsible for supporting the Director with the management and mentoring of staff and team operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead entitlement/approval and environmental review strategy for complex projects
  • Manage and participate in the preparation of environmental impact statements and assessments, planning and zoning studies, wetlands and coastal permits, visual impact analyses and related studies
  • Review and prepare State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) documentation
  • Assist clients with the administration of SEQRA and NEPA processes
  • Assist clients with the preparation of master plans, comprehensive plans, zoning codes and similar documents
  • Participate in the QA/QC process
  • Make presentations before municipal boards
  • Assist the Director with the generation of new business development opportunities
  • Assist the Director in establishing and tracking project milestones and business goals
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to communicate project status, changes in conditions or other key points of information
  • Support the Director in providing oversight, direction, management, mentoring and ongoing open communication to staff

  • Highly motivated self-starter with interest in growing the environmental planning practice on Long Island and throughout the region
  • Demonstrate superior ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
  • Ability to support senior management with the generation of new business development opportunities and preparing winning proposals

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 8-11 years of experience in environmental planning required
  • 11-15 years’ experience preferred
  • Experience managing a team required
  • Working knowledge of SEQRA/NEPA and land use regulations a plus
