Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Environmental Planner/Consultant to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. Specifically we are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant with a technical background in either biology or agrology, or environmental regulatory planning and project approvals. This position will focus on growing our Saskatchewan and Prairies environmental services market and will provide you the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.
This position is available at our Saskatoon office.
Responsibilities
What your day will look like:
Technical Development & Project Management (65%)
- Lead the scoping, development, and execution of environmental investigations, environmental management programs and plans including research, field work, and technical report writing
- Support the development of environmental impact assessments, regulatory permitting and approvals applications, compensation/offsetting plans, and related environmental permitting assignments at the provincial and federal levels
- Scope, plan, develop, and implement field programs for a variety of natural resource, municipal, land development, and infrastructure projects
- Review project opportunities and lead proposal preparation including writing the scope of work, preparing cost estimates, and working with Dillon’s marketing team to deliver professional and competitive proposals to clients
- Manage projects from the proposal stage, through execution, and closeout using industry standard project management tools and approaches and Dillon’s own internal project tracking and management tools
- Liaise with public and private sector clients, government review and approval agencies, sub-consultants and community representatives including Indigenous communities as well as the general public and stakeholders
- Coordinate project team activities, provide direction to project team members, and contribute to development of staff
Business Development (32%)
- Build client relationships through identifying market opportunities, client communications, preparation of proposals, and business development activities
- Present at, and participate in, conferences, technical workshops, webinars, and professional associations to raise the Dillon profile in the business community and among peers
- Collaborate with staff across Canada for the purposes of project delivery, client relationship development, and opportunity/project research
Learning & Development (3%)
- A commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed:
- An undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, or a related environmental sciences field.
- Professional experience in an environmental consulting, industrial, regulatory, or academic setting
- Valid driver’s license
Experience
- The ability to lead and mentor teams
- A solid knowledge and understanding of the local Saskatchewan market
- A strong business acumen and a local network of clients and partners
- In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements, with a specific focus on Saskatchewan regulations and permitting requirements.
- Experience with the Provincial Environmental Assessment Process for Developments within Saskatchewan under the Environmental Assessment Act.
- Experience in the preparation of regulatory applications and submissions
- Experience in planning and executing field programs as part of environmental studies.
- Understanding of the application of Best Management Practices to environmental compliance and effectiveness monitoring programs
- Demonstrated success in project management and client relationship skills
- Excellent oral and written communication, report writing, critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to project quality and project deadlines
