We are currently looking for a Senior or Principal Energy Efficiency Policy Consultant to join our Policy, Strategy and Economics team.

Your role

Our Policy, Strategy and Economics delivers high-profile policy and strategy support projects to Governments, international financial institutions and corporate clients all over the world on a wide range of topics including climate change, energy, transport, air quality and chemicals, amongst other topics. This new role will focus on energy efficiency policy and you will work with colleagues to win and deliver projects concerning the efficiency of energy related products (ErP) and the policy environment that encourages their uptake.

You will carry out work that includes feasibility studies, rapid evidence assessment, impact assessment, technical performance analysis, stakeholder engagement and evaluation. In particular you will work within a team delivering a multi-year, multi million pound programme for the UK Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy to develop the UK’s approach to incentivising and encouraging the use of cutting edge energy related products within household, commercial and industrial settings.  This includes products with heating and cooling systems, water systems, appliances and devices.

Key Responsibilities:

The role is a position with responsibility for:

• Assisting clients to develop policies and regulations aimed at improving the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the products used by consumers, business and industry.
• Managing such projects, including leading small teams of more junior staff, or contributing to projects as a team member.
• Development and maintenance of close client and partner relationships to support the winning of new business.
• Contributing to or leading proposals that respond to client tenders.
• Participating in capacity building activities including workshop facilitation and presentation delivery.
• Presenting Ricardo Energy & Environment’s work at client meetings.

Key competencies and experience:

• Educated to at least Bachelor’s degree level specialising in scientific, engineering, product design, sustainable building design or environmental fields (essential).
• Experience with UK and EU energy and climate change policy especially the measures implemented under the UK industrial strategy, Net Zero agenda, Clean Growth Strategy, EU Energy Efficiency Directive, Ecolabel Directive, EU Eco-design Regulation and the Effort Sharing Regulation (essential).
• Experience with stakeholder consultation, impact assessment, cost benefit analysis, rapid evidence assessment and policy evaluation  (desired).
• Experience with energy labelling, eco-design, ecolabelling, capital tax incentives, carbon/energy taxation and research incentives (desired).
• Experience contributing to business development and/or competitive bid writing in a consultancy environment (desired).Experience working within multidisciplinary teams is essential. Experience managing project teams, especially in a consulting environment, is desired.

Skills and behaviours required:

• Strong project delivery skills with track record in leading or contributing towards large and/or complex projects.
• Strong oral and written communication, including concise and precise report writing.
• Strong analytical skills .
• Good team worker.
• Strong level of commercial awareness and appreciation for project financial management principles.
