You are a broadly experienced resource economist who has undertaken benefit-cost and regulatory impact analyses and economic impact assessments, implemented numerous valuations of non-market goods including models of recreation demand, and applied decision analysis in your work. You have in-depth knowledge of natural resource damage assessment (NRDA) and have been involved in lost human use assessments and habitat and resource equivalency analysis for both oil spills and contaminated sites. You thrive on collaboration and working to find innovative approaches to resolving complex matters, such as environmental damage quantification, population-level ecological modeling, nature-based restoration, and the ethical basis of your work. About the Job
We are currently seeking a Senior Economist to join our growing Natural Resource and Environmental Economics practice. The successful candidate will be able to conceptualize the work that needs to be accomplished and lead others in the innovative application of economic analysis to a wide variety of environmental and natural resource management and business issues. The candidate’s work will apply the principles and methods of welfare economics to practical problems using statistics/econometrics methods and other analytical methods in the areas of benefit–cost analysis, environmental justice, multi-dimensional wellbeing, and methods for valuing environmental and natural resource outcomes for businesses and the public. The candidate will be able to manage complex projects and work in and lead multidisciplinary teams. This position may offer in-office, hybrid, or remote opportunities based on the candidate’s location and the needs of the organization.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Natural Resource and Environmental Economist, your job functions will include, but not be limited to
• Providing technical and strategic leadership on client projects
• Managing client service teams and taking responsibility for delivering high-quality client service
• Effectively communicating economic analysis methods and results to team members, clients, government agencies, and stakeholders
• Litigation support
• Building new work with existing clients and helping developing new clients
• Recognizing how economics can add value to other disciplines and areas of work in a broad-based environmental consultancy
• Mentoring staff
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a master’s or Ph.D. in economics or natural resource economics.
The ideal candidate will have:
• 10+ years of experience providing applied research results in academic, governmental, or consulting settings
• Significant experience in natural resource damage assessment
• Experience conducting socio-economic evaluations for environmental impact statements and evaluating environmental justice and sustainability issues
• Advanced skills in statistics and econometrics
• Spreadsheet programming and Monte Carlo analysis experience
• Training and experience in a field of environmental science (e.g. biology, ecology, toxicology, etc.)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
• Possess strong organizational abilities
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
Annual Salary Range: $120,000 - $165,000
An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company-match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (determined by title at hire), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
