About the role

The Senior Ecologist will provide experienced guidance, technical advice, input, and support to projects and personnel within the Ecology team.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Both development and technical review of client deliverables, e.g., mitigation licence applications, management plans, ecological reports, bids and quotations.
  • Undertake site visits / surveys.
  • Leading and developing in-house junior ecologists and interns by mentoring on technical issues to strengthen the team.
  • Provide technical ecological guidance and support to the wider Ecosulis team where necessary.
  • Accountable for the quality, coordination, resourcing and programming of a diverse range of projects.
  • Leading and managing on budgets, SHEQ KPIs and deadlines.
  • Reporting on project risk management to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Liaising with external stakeholder, clients and public and statutory bodies.

About you

As well as having high attention to quality and detail, you will have the ability to multi-task and work proactively and flexibly in a dynamic environment, whilst possessing strong prioritisation and organisation skills.  A good team player with enthusiasm for ecology and the environment would make you a desirable fit for this position.

Other key skills and experience required:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of UK wildlife legislation and policy, the planning system and of applying relevant guidance for surveys.
  • Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), writing and/or delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements which have been successfully consented.
  • Significant experience in surveying for a range of protected species.
  • Experience of technical review of ecological reports.
  • Good commercial and project management skills for a range of project size

Desirable:

  • Experience in line management and leading a team would be advantageous.
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • A holder of at least one protected species licence or have a specialism in a particular area.
  • Competent using QGIS.

More information

  • Job type: Full time – permanent
  • Start date: October/November 2023
  • Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
  • Location: The role will be home based with travel to site, client meetings and management meetings as needed.

A full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle will be required for this position.
