The Role: Senior Director of Material and Process Development

The Director of Material and Process Development (SD-MPD) has the complete ownership of the development of sorbent and corresponding advanced processes that will meet the corporate Key performance indicators  across all of the CO2 capture application identified by the shareholders and senior management. The SD-MPD will work in close collaboration with the sorbent on a roll group, the technical process group, the product design group, the sorbent adsorption bed group (SAB) and bed manufacturing group. He will be responsible for the technical lead and the development of a highly performance team for the development and synthesis of sorbent and CO2 process. The SD-MDP will also be responsible for the transfer of sorbent synthesis to external world class manufacturing suppliers to be able to reach large-scale production at low cost.

The SD-MPD is responsible for developing new processes, refining, and improving existing processes and participating in development of continuous improvement culture. The SD-MPD will play a critical role in creating a world-class technology that will be used for both point source and direct air CO2 capture. The D-SOAR will work with suppliers and partners as Svante expand to meet the global demand for CO2 capture. The sorbent and corresponding carbon capture processes is at the heart of Svante’s technology.

The SD-MPD must have a demonstrable record of high level of expertise on sorbent development and corresponding CO2 process capture for a high-volume commercial application. Strong ability to deliver results in a cooperative and team-focused manner using a Lean culture is also of prime importance.

Proven track record of building highly technical teams, nurturing technical talent, and developing technologies in symbiosis with the VP R&D.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Build, manage, and execute a ‘’Technology Roadmap’’ for adsorbent and corresponding CO2 process to meet corporate KPIs for all applications
  • Collaborate with internal groups to meet the corporate capture cost
  • Build, develop and nourish a highly performance team for the development for sorbent and corresponding process
  • Collaborate with both internal and external R&D resources, alignment, and integration across technical and commercial functions internally as well as with R&D funding partners (ex. DOE)
  • Oversee R&D teams and related programs aimed at implementing, evaluating, and enhancing the technology and process applications from the laboratory to tonnes scales
  • High level and critical analysis of scientific results, prepare technical reports and high level recommendation,  and identify improvements and optimization methods
  • Creation and maintenance of process control documentation
  • Development and nurturing of the Material and Process Development group to achieved employee empowerment and informed decision-making

Key Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the development of sorbent material and related processes applicable to CO2 capture
  • At least 10 years of experience in working in R&D on adsorption, gas separation or battery material development

Knowledge:

  • Excellence in fully understanding the key physical parameters that control a given phenomena
  • Excellence in converting scientific concerns and questions to design of experiments and high-level data analysis
  • Excellent in analytical and synthesize skills with ability to make high-level recommendations
  • Excellence in team-building and the ability to deliver results in a cooperative, team-focused manner and work with subject matter expert of different fields
  • Excellence in building “world-class” expert teams
  • Excellence in making good strategic decision and push forward the corporate alignment
  • Demonstrate written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good time management, with ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines

Education:

  • M. Sc. A. or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics
