Position Summary

The Senior Director, Corporate Finance & Risk leads financial management and reporting on MEDA world-wide activities, including treasury, and regulatory compliance. This position helps to ensure the overall stability of MEDA’s financial status.

The Director will be an integral part of the Finance, Information Technology Services & Legal team and will report to MEDA’s CFIO.

  • Job Status: Full-Time

  • Start Date: June 2024

  • Location: Hybrid/Remote within Canada or US, ideally within proximity to a MEDA office

  • Salary Range:

    • Canadian-based employee: $116,400 - 142,500 (CAD)
    • US-based employee: $122,220 – 149,363 (USD)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management

  • Oversee financial management worldwide, ensuring a ONE MEDA experience for all stakeholders
  • Lead financial planning of MEDA by ensuring tools align with strategy, clear guidelines and timely analysis of performance and risks
  • Lead in the development of MEDA’s annual budget process as well as quarterly preparation of 36-month rolling forecast
  • Manage the treasury activities including cashflow forecast, banking relationships, authorized signatories, corporate credit cards as well as the working capital requirements
  • Responsible to ensure internal controls are in place and are effective within and surrounding financial systems and processes, including ensuring segregation of duties across MEDA worldwide financial services

Financial Strategy & Policy

  • Responsible to set MEDA’s cost recovery policy and ensure the application across all systems and processes
  • Support corporate strategic planning through analysis of business model opportunities and risks

Risk Management

  • Oversee MEDA’s risk framework, ensuring objective evaluation or risks as well as reporting risks
  • Manage MEDA’s insurance needs ensuring appropriate worldwide coverage

Reporting

  • Lead the monthly and quarterly financial close as well as preparation of consolidated financial statements, including written variance analysis commentary ensuring risks are clearly highlighted
  • Prepare materials for Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and Board meetings of MEDA entities
  • Oversee the accounting and valuation of MEDA’s investments

Audit, Regulatory & Compliance

  • Lead annual consolidated financial statement audit process for MEDA worldwide, plus Uniform Guidance annual audit, ensuring compliance with Non-profit accounting standards and corporate accounting policies
  • Oversee preparation of financial regulatory reports and tax filings such as T3010, IRS 990, FBAR, NICRA, and federal/state filings and state corporate registrations
  • Communicate changes in the regulatory environment to stakeholders

Team Leadership & Administration

  • Guide the strategic direction of the operational finance team
  • Lead continuous improvement activities for finance processes and procedures
  • Review and approve journal entries and payment cycles, including management of foreign currency risks and transactions
  • Responsible for administration of MEDA’s financial systems, and ongoing training of users across MEDA
  • Ensure record retention policy in place and documents archived appropriately

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in financial management or related field. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.

Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of financial management experience including leadership in driving change.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Understanding and appreciation of business principles, international development, and MEDA’s approach of creating business solutions to poverty

  • Working knowledge of NetSuite or other financial ERP

  • Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills

  • Exceptional analytical skills, as well as demonstration of continuous improvement mindset

  • Experience in financial management of government contracts

  • Strong and effective communication skills, willingness to engage with all stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate efforts across the team, including managing other analysts or consultants
