Energy & Environment, one of Ricardo plc’s five operating business units, is a leader in sustainability consultancy, solving complex environmental challenges through industry-leading analysis, advice and data. We are currently looking for a Senior Consultant to join our Environmental Advisory and Approvals team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead small and medium approvals projects for extractive industries, industrial facilities, waste/environmental infrastructure, and energy sectors.
  • Support the technical lead on complex approvals projects and proposals.
  • Conduct environmental field work, including supervision of subcontractors, collection of environmental samples, coordination of laboratory testing, supervision of construction/management of construction site contractors; ensuring testing is performed in accordance with agreed standards when required.
  • Complete reports for all stages of the project – from conception to completion.
  • Prepare GIS data, analysis, and produce high quality maps.
  • Lead and assist with proposal presentations for prospective clients and/or projects.
  • Attend meetings with clients to manage projects according to Ricardo’s scope of services.
  • Provide input into business development strategies and initiatives to further grow the Ricardo business.

Key competencies and experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, or Environmental Planning or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in consulting, or experience across extractive industries, waste, agriculture, industry or similar sector.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in environmental approvals (EIA, EES, works approvals/development licences), quarry/extractive industry approvals or planning permit applications.
  • Experience working within the parameters of the Earth Resources Regulations, Environmental Protection Act, or the Planning and Environment Act.
  • Proven track record of contributing high quality work.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects to completion, within budget and to a high standard.
  • Current driver’s licence.

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in field investigations, including subcontractor supervision, and collection of field samples for environmental monitoring purposes will be highly regarded.
  • Previous GIS experience.
  • A desire to mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Interest in strengthening client relationships and business development.
