Principal Functions and Purpose of the position:
To bring the latest technology for the management of wetlands through:
- Researching innovation and technology (I&T) solutions for wetland monitoring, and introducing wireless Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to Mai Po Nature Reserve (MPNR);
- Establishing a wetland pilot site to demonstrate proof of concept by deploying wireless IoT sensors and remotely collecting wetland monitoring data;
- Analyzing collected data, evaluating the effectiveness and settings of IoT sensor applications, and sharing experiences with local and regional stakeholders in the wetland stewardship communities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage key stakeholders for technical consultations and conduct feasibility studies to identify and prioritize suitable I&T devices.
- Translate user requirements from wetland monitoring and management into technology solutions and specifications.
- Manage procurement process responsible for assessing I&T devices, services, and suppliers.
- Oversee the IoT system integration, including installing sensors and site infrastructures, establishing connectivity and data processing, and developing user interfaces and central management platform by working closely with contracting Solution Architects, Software Engineers, Wireless Communications Experts, and Backend & Frontend Developers.
- Monitor on-site devices and online user platform performance of the IoT system and respond to any technical issues.
- Prepare system documentation, project reports, and IoT system technical report by working closely with the MPNR research & monitoring and habitat & infrastructure teams.
- Deliver guided tours/ site visits for selected groups, organise webinars, produce education and communication materials related to the use of IoT applications in wetland management.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned.
Required Functional Skills:
- Degree holder in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electronic Engineering/ Environmental Management or other relevant disciplines
- Minimum 3 years of experience in IT/ IoT project
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Cantonese (preferably Putonghua as well)
- Good report writing and data management skills
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Earth.
- A basic understanding of programming languages, API automation and testing, cloud computing, information security, UI and UX design would be an added advantage.
- Driver’s license of class 1 & 2, certified arborist, certified construction safety officer, basic first aid, swimming, cycling, and lifesaving skill would be an added advantage
