WWF-Hong Kong is looking for 2 Senior Conservation Officers to support the conservation themes of Marine Biodiversity and Ocean Sustainability. These two job holders will actively be involved in planning and implementing programmes focusing on the conservation of threatened marine habitats and species, advocacy of comprehensive marine conservation policy and promotion of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programme plans and activities, including but not limit to conduct fieldwork, carry out relevant research, prepare documents to
- actively conserve threatened marine habitats (e.g. corals, seagrass) and species (e.g. cetaceans, horseshoe crabs),
- develop innovative approaches to influence marine conservation policy
- pilot conservation initiative that applies principles of “other effective area-based conservation measures” (OECMs),
- make recommendations for transitioning local fisheries and aquaculture industries towards sustainable production practices.
- Engage with key stakeholders in ocean conservation projects, such as government officials, local communities, and cross-border partners to advance the team’s goals
- Lobby for institutional changes and advocating for the development of frameworks conducive to marine conservation, providing advice to government bodies and other stakeholders through participation in engagement meetings, working groups, and committees.
- Enhance WWF-HK profile by supporting media campaigns such as interviews, collaboration with WWF communications team and engaging the media.
- Represent WWF-Hong Kong at relevant functions and meetings.
- Complete other assigned tasks to support the team’s goals.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Degree holder in Marine Ecology, Environmental Science, or Nature Conservation related disciplines. Postgraduate degree holder would be an advantage.
- 3+ years of relevant working experience preferably in nature conservation or environmental management, ideally with experience in marine conservation or research.
- Knowledge on threatened marine habitats and species, sustainable fisheries (include aquaculture and related chain of custody), and OECM, would be an advantage.
- Experience in and physically fit for fieldworks, particularly in marine and/or intertidal environment.
- Experience in programme management.
- Strong critical thinking skills in research, analyse and formulating organizational positions and responses to current and emerging issues.
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua an advantage.
- Good report writing and data analysis skills.
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with proficiency in ArcGIS an advantage.
- Certificates in first aid, swimming, driving license and scuba diving are preferred.
