Purpose of the position:

To conserve the watershed landscape in Lantau Island through integrated approaches in watershed management and conservation, the position will work on a new 1-year research-based project on wetland conservation in Shui Hau, Lantau Island. The project aims to understand the baseline status of wetland and shoreline habitats and identify conservation actions that are scoped with local stakeholders' needs.

Principal functions:

• Coordinate and carry out research activities in the watershed landscape in Shui Hau, Lantau Island with the goal of benefitting both local communities and biodiversity.
• Ideate integrated approaches in wetland conservation management in Lantau Island.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing research activities for the Shui Hau watershed conservation project, which involves data collection, data management, analysis, and reporting.

• Undertaking field ecological assessments on the baseline status of the Shui Hau watershed, with a particular focus on freshwater macroinvertebrates and horseshoe crabs.

• Supporting communication with project key stakeholders to develop and carry out collaborative research.

• Coordinating research and engaging activities with different stakeholders, including government agencies, academics, NGOs, and local communities.

• Supporting project administrative tasks.

• Contributing to the development of conservation works in Lantau Island and, as necessary, other wetland conservation projects.

• Performing other duties as required by operational developments.

Qualifications and required skills:

• Degree holder in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or any discipline related to conservation.

• At least 2 years of relevant working experience in ecological field research and project management.

• Knowledge of macroinvertebrate and ecological research methods relevant to the work program is desirable.

• Relevant working experience in stakeholder engagement.

• Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office; GIS and statistical analytical skills are highly preferred.

• Good command of both written and spoken English and Cantonese.

• Physically fit to conduct and lead outdoor activities

• Willingness to work during weekends and holidays as per the working schedule.

• Passionate in conservation issues and wetland research

• Self-motivation and ability to make plans well in advance.

• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks
